Vanterpool and Triano were not nothing. But their absence was clearly felt these past few years I think

I was talking about the current staff. Vanterpool was the last coach they had that has potential to be something more than an assistant in the NBA, and even that’s iffy.

They've got a point. This is a no-win choice. The Portland media is going to SAVAGE Billups and the Blazers over the hire. The Jailblazers era is still pretty fresh in the minds of a lot of fans, and for better or worse, character matters in this city.

He may be "Dame's choice", but Dame and the team need to "read the room" and realize Billups ain't it.

Assuming Billups is indeed the choice, then he and Portland brass need to come out and address the rape accusation right up front.
I confess, I'd never heard of it until this year, so either I've been living under a rock or they successfully hushed it up. That has to end.

The two things that immediately came to my mind were that Olshey wanted Billups and if he didn't get his way he might be gone OR Dame wanted Billups over the other finalists and let it be known if they didn't hire him he'd ask for a trade.

or they all wanted him, including ownership. Players will want to come and play for him. Good way to make up for Portland not really being a destination. Our only real sell up until now was Dame.

I think olshey new who was going be the coach at the start. Lead the other along if they had a shot. Assistant coaches will be very important for Billups success.

Billups, 44, met with Portland's leadership, including franchise chair Jody Allen and President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey, in Seattle on Wednesday, sources said.

Billups has a long-standing relationship with franchise superstar Damian Lillard and the two have talked frequently throughout Portland's search process, sources said.

Olshey's history with Billups goes back to their time together with the Clippers from 2011 to 2013. As Clippers GM, Olshey claimed Billups after the Knicks amnestied him in 2011 -- and had him on the team's roster for two seasons. Olshey has long considered Billups one of the best leaders he has ever encountered in the NBA.

Maybe Olshey threatened to quit if they DID hire Chauncey, thus sealing the deal.

    Hey, a guy can dream.

    Welcome to Portland, Chauncey!

From a purely basketball and leadership perspective, I think Mr. Big Shot and Dame Time will be a great match.

I never saw Stotts as a strong leader that could hold players accountable and keep them motivated.

    Billups will do that.

I can't answer, although as I am incapable of happiness, being dead inside, "no" is a true, if possibly misleading answer. But I need to hear more about this past accusation, and I have a feeling I'm not going to (not that Billups could ever prove his innocence, which is why defense lawyers don't have to do that).

This better mean Sheed (and Ben Wallace) are going to be assistant coaches.
