Probably not, but there's less ambiguity. He's a confirmed wife-beater, regardless of how many times it happened.

Here's the problem, when you say thorough investigation, people think you will actually talk to the people who were involved because that is thorough and everything else was public record that Neil could have looked up from his laptop.

So, yeah when Neil puts it on his word that he knows that some things are bigger than basketball and they had to be sure about it and so they did a very thorough investigation... that was a lie. It wasn't just Neil putting a little spin on it, it was a lie because if a reporter was able to go and get statements from the people involved how could our investigation (not a background check a "very thorough investigation") have been considered what Neil claimed and told everyone to take his word that it was.

It was a lie... I'm not dogmatically attached to that opinion but someone is going to have to tell me how that investigation was thorough when a couple of journalists just completely blew it up.

You know what I totally agree with you. It's not Chauncey and it's not even the hiring process that makes me think that Olshey and definitely not Chauncey, needs to be fired. It was the misrepresentation of the hiring process that is fireable. If Olshey would have got up there and said we feel comfortable with Chauncey and how we looked into it, I would think that they were irresponsible for not talking to everyone they could because that actually covers Chauncey's ass, not just the team's but I wouldn't think Olshey had ruined his reputation.

Olshey however had to get up there, make a big deal about the thing being bigger than basketball, state that he knew everything was consensual because they did a very thorough investigation through a third party. Then when asked about it he told everyone that they would have to take his word for it that it was thorough. He put his reputation on the line and three weeks later reporters had done an actual thorough investigation and Olshey is left with his word meaning nothing... about something bigger than the responsibilities he should now be relieved of.

I'm pretty sure he can work with guys that are under contract if they come to the facility for workouts if they want. There aren't limitations like last year.

I think the one thing that would calm the storm to the greatest degree possible is firing the guy responsible for the storm.

But doesn't that potential move imply that Billups should never been hired and that he is guilty whether convicted or not, and not deserving of the Coaching position. I just think it opens an even bigger hole.

Not to belittle your point, but I just don't think that it would be a normal business practice for a major corporation doing an investigation on a potential employee's background to go back and try to interview the principal parties to something that was the subject of a civil legal settlement, nearly a quarter century ago, that undoubtedly included nondisclosure agreements. Neil absolutely should have discussed more clearly exactly what was done and not tried to have cut off reasonable questions, but I don't think that you can state that what they did do was a "lie" simply because they didn't try to talk to certain principal parties.

Neil had to work in concert with Vulcan legal with regards to any background check/thorough and they would set the criteria, Im sure. I believe that Jody would want a thorough enough report for her & Bert to sign off on. I really don't think this is Neil lying and deceiving his ownership in something so important.
Its amazing to me that the Dallas pres simply said she did her research herself and talked to Kidd directly, and its accepted with no apparent backlash, that Ive heard of?

I don't think firing Neil for not doing his job during the hiring process and then at the very least misrepresenting to the public what had been done to vet Chauncey has anything to do with Chauncey.

The only good part about this is that people actually did do thorough investigations of the 1997 incident and they came up with nothing that would even be close to grounds for firing Chauncey or reversing the hire and they sure as shit didn't find anything that made him look guilty, if anything the opposite. No one can know for sure in these situations but because of what reporters have uncovered through actual investigation Chauncey now more than ever looks like the most believable party... as far as his involvement is concerned.

It does have to do with geography but it also has to do with what the Mavs said they did... there's nothing to dispute or question besides their judgment.

The way Neil and the PR person came off in that presser was suspicious and as per usual for Neil arrogant. Telling people that they'd have to take his word for it was asking for reporters to dig deeper than Neil had to have known he had. That's the guy running our team though, he's pompous and has gotten away with talking down to people publicly for the last decade. So of course it's Portland and Neil is an asshole... so there was backlash and then an actual investigation and now outrage... not just from the Twitter and Blogosphere peanut gallery but from legitimate journalists.

Well for those of you sick of hearing me whine about this shit... I'm done. Still have the same opinion of it but I was naive to think the Vulcan's could distance themselves far enough from Olshey to escape any blame they put on him.

So we'll now have a full decade of Neil... I hope he does really well building the contender that Dame seems to be demanding now because I do not want to see Dame gone.
