forgot about Jack dang it. I could see it maybe with just Calderon. You win this one RR7! *shakes fist*
RR7, I think the trades you are coming up with for collison are far off. He has shown this year that he may be a top 10 PG in the league. Considering how many holes they have, I think Collison will be used in a trade to get a very quality player at one of their holes along with financial savings. They will be looking for a quality starter. I don't see a trade coming.
I came up with one rough example(taking on Posey's contract), but my purpose was not to find ways to add Collison, since I am not interested in adding Collison.
ok. a lot of people have been talking about ways to get him, so i thought this was just another attempt. Sorry if I was wrong. I see Bosh as being more likely to get since Toronto will be over a barrel if (and I expect he will) Bosh demands a S&T or he leaves. However, the big problem I see is getting Bosh to want to come here. But I don't think there are going to be too many offers that will include a better player with as much potential and youth as Aldridge in a S&T.
I don't see it as very likely. Our biggest trading piece has the most undesirable contract. Toronto will have better options this summer.
Oh, sorry. Yeah, I think, especially if they sell their team, they'd much prefer getting a player they can use AND shed salary,as opposed to just shedding salary, with Joel. Plus, if they wanted to shed salary, they can look to a team with cap space to do it. If a team liked his potential, they can add him for free. The Clippers, with cap space, can grab him as a PG of the future, to learn behind Baron Davis(both UCLA guys, from southern Cal) and take on Posey, and send back nothing in return. Or a draft pick. That's better, if it is financially moticated, than having to take on Joel. Or anyone we can send them.
Colangelo may evaluate upside differently. He could see Bargnani's relative lack of production (statistically) as well as we could, but gave him a huge contract that none of us (who commented on it at the time) would have lavished on Bargnani. If he likewise sees untapped potential in Fernandez (not due to age, perhaps, but maybe due to how he's used or not used) maybe he'd consider Fernandez a useful player.
Judging by the makeup of Toronto's team, Colangelo puts more stock in international competition play than NBA play. And Rudy's been just peachy for Spain.
If Bosh is smart and the Thunder are smart they'll just sign him out-right, or if Bosh is feeling particularly generous he might agree to a sign-and-trade with the Raptors and his team of choice, in which case I would expect the Thunder to offer up Kristic, Collison, Green, or maybe Ibaka plus one of their extra first round draft picks to get him. In short, I think Bosh is going to have better options and the Raptors are going to get better sign-and-trade offers than what the Blazers could put together.
Green's a better option than Aldridge in a S&T for Toronto? I disagree. I can see Bosh maybe choosing to go there, though, over here. But maybe presti is viewing his team building differently. And, maybe their ownership isn't as willing to pay that high of a price. Bosh and Durant both on a max, and Westbrook due an extension in a year. Who knows.
Bosh is going to hold the cards, he'd be doing the Raptors a solid by agreeing to a sign and trade unless he had a very specific destination in mind that was over the cap. The Raps would probably like to get at least something back in the deal, Green would qualify -- Colangelo would probably love his 3 point range.
I'm not disputing Bosh holding the cards. Just disputing you saying they'll get better offers, and Green being one of them. If he wants to go there, then yes, that is better than nothing for them. If he is ok with both here or there, I don't see how Green is a better option than Aldridge. And if a team isn't under the cap, the only person really getting done a solid by doing a S&T is Bosh, and he knows it. He's giving away an awful lot of money by NOT agreeing to a S&T.
I'm not going to argue the merits of Green over Aldridge (and vice versa), they're both second bananas with flaws in their game. As for Bosh, he'd be leaving some money on the table if he didn't do a S&T, but after 7 years in the league maybe he's ready to win and collect hardware at the expense of a couple of million dollars? If I was Bosh looking at teams that were one big man away from contending, the Thunder would have to be pretty close to my first choice, it probably wouldn't hurt if he was a couple of hours away from Dallas where he's from.
I think you need to factor in a few relevant CBA provisions in looking at this situation. First, according to Storyteller's numbers, Bosh is opting out of the last year of his contract that would have paid him $17,149,243 next year. Second, the Thunder will have just a bit over $16 million in cap space. Third, since the Raptors hold Bosh's Bird rights, they can offer a max contract that includes an extra year over what anyone else can offer. Unless the Thunder can clear more space, they can't offer a contract that starts as high as what the Raptors can offer, which affects the compounded amount of raises over the life of the contract. For all of those reasons, it's far from clear that it would be smart for Bosh to sign with the Thunder outright. As far as a sign and trade between the Raptors and the Thunder, the salaries of the players coming back to Toronto would have to match within 125% + $100K of what Bosh's new contract would start at. Assuming $17 mil as a starting point since that's what he's opting out of, that means about $13.6 million would have to come back to the Raptors. That would require a minimum of 3 players from the Thunder's roster. I'm not so sure that the Thunder are going to be willing to part with that much of their talent base for Bosh. For the Blazers, a package of Aldridge, Fernandez, and JPEC would work for both parties.
The Thunder wouldn't have to give up that much. Since they are under the cap, they'd just have to give up enough to clear space to fit in his max. If he started at 17, and they had 16 in space, they only need to send out 1 million in salary.
Doh. Yeah, you're right. As long as they don't end up more than $100K over the cap following the trade, it would work.
Location could be a factor. If not, I'd think Portland would be at or near the top of the list of "destinations to win." A Roy/Oden/Bosh/Batum core is probably the best in basketball. Obviously, the caveat there is health.
First of all, you people are overrating his rebounding ability. He gets a ton of his rebounds because no one else can (bargnani? hedo?). Secondly, i hope BC is not stupid enough to build around Aldrige and Bargs. If bosh and Bargs didnt work out, i don't see how Aldrige (who is similar to bosh except worse) and Bargs will work.
