Hmm...I've not been excited about any of the names that have come up in these searches. I wish we would have gotten Adelman last year, and maybe gone after a proven GM like Geoff Petrie. Why would the Blazers not even talk to Mike D'Antoni? Really, you want Kaleb the video guy to be the coach over D'Antoni? Kaleb seems like a talented guy, but can't be be our assistant for a few years?

Chad had a horrible year, almost everything he did sucked, only good move was getting the #6 pick. At this point, I don't know if it's too close to the draft to try to wheel a new GM in here? Everyone makes mistakes, but if Chad messes up this offseason, he'll never be a GM in this league.

if we really are in full rebuild mode I would then have to question resigning Nic if he gets offers of even 9 or 10 mil, see if we can sign and trade him for a pick or cheaper player on a rookie contract we can build with

Well sadly I had just taken Nic off ignore Saturday. What a fucking joke of a franchise. Not so much that they are hiring two people that are less qualified than other people interviewed or even said to be interested in the job, but because this these fucking idiots have gone over a year clowning around. I am willing to give Chad a shot in the draft as "the" guy, and will assume we is the guy with the golden gut. I will also give Kaleb the benefit of the doubt that the offense will change dramatically over what he ran last year. But I don't think either are the right choice.

it's awesome that this comes after Season ticket renewals. Already had a couple buddies text me saying they wouldn't have kept their tickets if this happened earlier. They have no problem with the rebuilding concept, more about the complete lack of direction of the franchise.

I'm not entirely pleased with this decision (if in fact this is the route we take) but I'm still a little confused as to the hate around these boards for CB. Personally, I believe both CB and Kaleb have bright futures in the NBA, but would feel most comfortable with them taking these positions 2-3 years down the road after they have gotten a little more seasoning and experience as top assistants to a full-time GM and head coach.

With that said, I just don't understand people's hatred of Chad. The main moves that people fault him for:

Luke Babbitt: While he may of been "head scout" during this draft, that is not a decision-making position within the organization and what seems to be forgotten was that this was KP's last draft. While it may have been a "fuck you" to the organization, if Luke continues his play from the end of last season, I will take a Korver-type impact shooter with the #16 pick.

Nolan Smith/Kenneth Faried: This has also been widely reported that the reason we passed on Faried was that the Felton trade was contingent on doing so. While hindsight shows us that Felton was not a good option at all, we were all pretty excited to finally have a potential PGOTF on the roster. Hindsight is 20/20 and I don't think anyone expected Felton to crash and burn like he did. Overall, a bad trade, but what GM has a perfect record?

Jamal Crawford/Kurt Thomas: Crawford was pretty bad this year, and Thomas at times wasn't great either. But think back to the beginning of the year. Oden-Done for the year. Roy-Retired. We desperately needed scoring and Jamal was the best scorer on the market. CB went out and got a player who had been or been in contention for 6MOY for 2-3 straight years and signed him to a reasonable and flexible contract.

While some of his moves for this year didn't turn out the way he, or any of us, expected, no one expected the Blazers to have the kind of year they had.

Like I said, while I would rather have Morway as the man and CB as the top assistant and future successor, if CB ends up getting the job I would content with it.

PA coming out early and stating to anyone that would listen that Chad Buchanan was not a candidate for the permanent GM position makes the entire organization look like clowns

Paul Allen is more interested in the candidates er candidates that gives him the most 'autonomy'.

I've also come to the conclusion that not only is Paul Allen "Bat Shit Crazy" but he is a snob.

It's still early. Between this rumor and us likely keeping the picks.... I'd like to think its posturing to get other teams to buy in that we are rebuilding, so teams think we just won't give up our picks, thus driving up the price in trades for a young, talented vet(s). It'd be a decent strategy.

I'd like to think this is possible, but I'm giving our management too much credit.

    Woj nailed it (apparently)

MB tried to put a wet blanket on Woj's article

Paul Allen wants the big names but the interest is not mutual

Now this team is back to the guy who selected Mateen Cleves, I mean Nolan Smith, in the first round.

I don't trust Chad 100% to do the right thing for the franchise, but I am willing to give him a chance without Nate. Also, if we are doing the right thing and rebuilding, I can deal with two inexperienced guys

Mateen was a pimp at MSU... Nolan Smith was never a pimp. Ever.

This has yet to happen and the talk here is like it already happened.

If this happens, I think Allen is probably getting ready to sell the team. Having Canales be coach is cute and all and very Oregonian, but it doesn't say rich owner trying to win a championship, and it really isn't PA's style.

CB as GM . . . I guess. But the Blazers and Chad have both gone on records as Chad not being an option as permanent GM.

To me, it would be a total slap in the face to ticket season holders who stuck with this organization during a very bad year. Only 10% drop off in season ticket holders, PA proudly trumpets out there in his letter . . . so Allen reward us with an experience GM and coach to guide the Blazer to better times next season!

You guys are jumping the gun. This is just a rumor, nothing concrete.
All the players loved Kaleb and most of them told Larry in their exit interviews that they endorsed him to be given the job. Call me crazy, but I'll take the opinion of players who have been coached by some of the best in the world over message board geeks.
