Ahh... we haven't reached our full smart potential as a fan base. Because clearly that can be quantified.

I see what you did there Stren... :-)

No, overall we are not a dumb fan base.

I would encourage you to read this article on Steve by Kerry Eggers.

I tried to find the video were Dwight Jaynes sat down with him on CSNNW but it appears to have been removed.

Maybe he's not everyone's favorite but I did appreciate him giving color commentary based on a fair approach and not based on what the marketing department wanted.

Steve Jones is from Portland? Get out of here! I'd need a link for proof.

And of course Snapper would be better! But he would never work in the minor leagues at his age. Nobody is being a clown, just thought you'd realize you were wasting a post on something so obvious that wouldn't happen.

I liked Haynes, I liked his style, I liked that at least some of the players seemed to genuinely like him, and I liked that he wasn't afraid to say what he though needed to be said. I wish him all the luck in the world.

That being said, it floors me that someone with such a weak grasp of proper usage and grammar gets a paying writing gig. I mean, "It is with great pleasure to announce that I have accepted a position..."? Seriously?

I guess I am your link (Tongue and cheek, sarcasim)

Yes, Steve Jones really is home grown and he graduated from Franklin High School right off of SE Division Street in Portland. He even went on to play for the Oregon Ducks and had a pretty decent basketball career.

Tone knows his shit though...I feel like his knowledge of the game leads him to having accurate opinions, and good commentary.

Antonio needs to lay off the "talking shit about the fans" crap. He's lucky the Blazers were cheap when they replaced Snapper with Barrett, and moved Rice over to the TV and hired some schlub for the radio.

He's significantly better than when he started, but he's kind of like the guy who tries to play the "heel" character, and believes it.

He could get fired tomorrow and at the half way part of the season we'd all be 40 games past it being an issue.

Because everything that is the latest, is the greatest. I get it.

I do have to agree that it was annoying when the snapper would shut down the hype machine (Walton) when he would state that the defense played great but on that particular play, the offesnse was just one step better.

I get it, the hype is sooooooo much more pleasurable; especially in this fish-bowl.

He was always just kind of pompous with every announcer he worked with. His little chuckle and then moments of silence. Just didn't really think he was that great. Is that against the law?

I loved Snapper early in his career. He was my favorite announcer. I think Oregonians were generally proud of his success. I was. At the end though, he was just so constantly negative, pompous, and yes, condescending, as Mick said. Maybe his medical issues colored his outlook? Anyway, I think the larger point is he's retired and I'd bet $100 he wouldn't be interested in the job, period, so really the question is moot. Furthermore, if Snapper were doing any color commentary or reporting on the Blazers today, I'd bet most of the Snapper proponents would change their tune very quickly. You think some of our local reporters are negative or annoying? You must have forgotten Snapper by the end of his career.

He drove me nuts when he talked while the ball was in play, but I thought he was great the rest of the time. I thought he was at his best answering phone calls from fans in the post-game show.
