Maybe NY wants more than a first round DP for Randolph thinking we are desperate, and Cho wants to make it look like we have other options. Or maybe they think CJ has potential and they want to see him for 10 days before they give up a draft pick for a question mark in Randolph.
well, i like this move. Considering Oden's very uncertain future status and Camby and Pryzbilla's age, we definitely need to develop a young big man. The sooner we start the better. And by the end of the year the team should know whether this guy can be something or not, so it could help in draft decisions.
Is this guy really a big man? I thought he was more of a forward at LSU. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAyqsFwkGAg
He can block shots. He was a poor rebounder in college for his height and length. He has always been unable to gain weight. He weighs about 200 pounds so he gets pushed around very easily. He is 7'0" in shoes though.
I like this move. Don't know much about the guy but his numbers suggest he could score points, rebound and block shots, and it's definitely a low-risk (high reward? lets hope) investment. I find it hard to believe he could be any worse than Sean Marks and I'm thinking his position (Aldridge's backup) is the one position that still needed to be filled. With Aldridge playing like 46.5 minutes against the Pacers and the team going something like -5 in the one minute he sat out.
Here's a link to an article in the Columbian on the potential signing of Johnson: http://www.columbian.com/weblogs/blazerbanter/2011/jan/23/blazers-to-call-up-big-man-chris-johnson/ Why does it seem that the Oregonian is always the last to report something like this?
Heh. That's what I get for taking a phone call in the middle of posting. Stupid work gets in the way of basketball once again.
Because they don't break news; they compile it. Their goal is not to be the first outlet to have a story, but to be the most reliable place to find details on a story once it becomes a big deal.
I think it's more than coincidence that this guy and Randolph are both from LSU. We've been hearing all these bad things about how Randolph isn't motivated, or that he has been a problem. Why wouldn't it make sense to bring in a guy that he played with in college? I don't know if they're friends or just acquaintances, but the timing sure seems strange.
