Just thinking about this. LA possibly formed the best backcourt ever in the history of the NBA.

    Okafor sucks hardcore shlong.

Kobe is nothing more than a volume shooter on a rapid decline.

Chris Paul is oft-injured and can be easily defended.

The rest of the Lakers squad is horrible.

EVEN if they trade for Dwight Howard, that means less touches for Kobe and teams can zero in on Dwight's dreadful FT shooting down the stretch in close games.

Every shit cloud has a silver lining.

This is obviously the last ditch effort of a franchise whose star is fading, and championship window is slamming shut.

    Ugh.

It sounds like the Lakers gave up a lot (two all-star-level players) but they got the best player in the deal, which is almost always the indicator of a successful trade.

I guess we'll have to wait and see where the pieces end up, but...

    ugh.

It sure would be nice if Portland had that window in view again. Instead of broken on the floor of the pit stop at Joes gas station back in Tuscaloosa.

    Hah! What?

He's not as good as Pau, but he's an average+ NBA starter (16.0 PER last year, 17.2 PER career... and better known for his defense than his offense). He's dramatically overpaid, but he'd definitely give the Lakers a pretty good third piece.

Or fourth, after Blake, I mean.

You mean after "Backcourt 2000" - Penny Hardaway + Jason Kidd.

And maybe if this had happened 5 years and two menisci ago.

(And of course, Jordan + Pippen was really the best backcourt.)

What was the trade that the Blazers had in place for Paul when Bowers was the Hornets GM, but the then-owner shot it down?

I think it was Andre, Joel, Batum, Bayless, and 1st round pick

Low BBIQ and bad FT shooting. And as far a defense goes, I've seen LaMarcus and Greg eat him alive.

    Meh.

They aren't getting anyone but Paul. Espn thinks lakers know something, hinting Howard. They said they sent out odom and pau for a pg. I will be extremely pissed if they get Howard.

For some reason this trade doesn't bother me. Kobe's peak is now descending and Paul has shaky knees. They are definitely in win NOW mode. I'm going to laugh in a couple years when they have no future and this blows up in their face.

The only reason it gets to me a little because CP3 was one of my favorite players. Not anymore now that he's a Laker. Like Gasol though, I'll always have appreciate his skillset.

I tend to agree. Plus, there is a reason why guys like MJ and Kobe don't get paired up with PGs who like to have the ball in their hands. Kobe has spent his entire career with guys like Ron Harper & Derek Fisher, who were happy to play off the ball. I'm not so sure that this means the Lakers are better. Now if they trade Bynum for Howard . . . good night Irene.

Against average and below average bigs, Okafor looks ok to good. Against the elite, he is outmatched. And, in the playoffs that is what matters - the key matchups. Look at Okafor on the court next to Oden or even LaMarcus. He is small.

Okafor is a hell of a lot better then Theo Ratliff or Jeff Pendegraph. Those would be the level of the Lakers starting PF if they don't get a PF back in the deal, so for us Laker haters we better hope like hell Emeka isn't included.

I think it's more if okafor goes then Howard ain't going. And I fear Howard more than okafor.

On its own, this a horrible deal for the Lakers. They're giving up two versatile All Star level big men for a little guy with bad knees. The Hornets got the best out of this. They got Dragic, Kevin Martin, Odom, Scola, and a pick! That's a playoff level starting lineuP!
