Excellent coach, very good team, plenty of talent in the pipeline despite a disappointing season--I don't think anybody saw this coming. Will likely have major ramifications in the Pac-12
Wow, this is crazy! I definitely wasn't expecting this. I wonder what the real story behind it is. Are there health reasons? Is he eyeing another team's opening?
I read a story like 5-6 months ago that Petersen basically hated Cristobal, that Cristobal has turned west coast recruiting into what they do in the SEC (year round), and that Petersen enjoyed the west coast because it was more laid back. Wonder if that has anything to do with it?
From what I understand up here in Seattle after talking to a coworker who is a UW fan, if Peterson were to stay head coach they would lose Lake. I think this is Peterson moving up, Lake moving in, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Peterson look for a new job in a couple of seasons.
When I get home from the gym tonight, I'll see if I can find the story I was referencing. It was sometime around a Summer camp the Ducks were doing for recruiting and it was just saying that Washington Coaches were really pissed off at Oregon Coaches for turning recruiting into an year-round process with almost no time off. I think Petersen is a great coach, so I was surprised to see that he was stepping down.
that wasn't a story....it was an assertion by a moderator on 247 who is known for pulling hot takes out of his colon, and the internet echo chamber took it from there Cristobol requires all assistants to recruit hard all the time. He has said that's what has made Alabama into a national power
this looks a lot like when Bellotti stepped aside at Oregon to keep the Ducks from losing Chip Kelly....except that Lake hasn't had close to the success as a coordinator that Chip had had. Lake is a good recruiter though
Ok, it may have been an editorial or an opinion piece, would that verbiage make it better? It's still something I read, and I have heard talked about on sports radio. I never said it was more than that, and stories can be fictional. If it's true it could be part of why he's moving on from it.
don't get me wrong....I'm not saying you didn't hear it or read it. I belong to 247 and I remember when that came out...we had a big discussion about it there. It was first said by a moderator at Dawgman on 247 who claimed he talked to two assistant coaches who said the staff didn't like that the Oregon coaches were recruiting hard all year in all days the NCAA allows them too. In other words, they didn't like that Oregon was outworking them as I said though, this was more about Peterson burning out and the Huskies in danger of losing Lake
Isaac and Ropp were all over this. Saying he is gone, but not sure where to, because the Wisconsin gig wont be any better.
I actually don't go to 247 much, so I'm not sure who dawgman is heh. I may have incorrectly worded it calling it a story, and I did know where it originated. Just interesting to me that this happens when this summer I "heard" this. Cristobal is a lot of things, but the dude does seem to have an SEC motor when it comes to he's not going to get outworked.
They mentioned that too, but I think they said no that he wold want out of this conference. USC is also a VERY tough job(bcause of the AD and school demands). 11 wins or more or you are fired. They have talent to get 9 wins easy.
At this point does USC have the talent? Seems like Oregon, Washington have been recruiting LA than USC has.
