Chris Pronger, the Philadelphia Flyers defenseman injured Wednesday night against Montreal, will have surgery on Friday afternoon and is likely to miss four to six weeks, the team said. Pronger broke a bone in his right foot, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. He had an X-ray and CT scan Thursday which disclosed the injury to the first metatarsal in his foot. Dr. Steve Raikin will perform the surgery. Pronger is second on the team in ice time at 22 minutes, 20 seconds per game and is a mainstay on both the power-play and penalty-killing units.
