I haven't projected any middle eastern outcomes on Trump.....I don't think he gives a shit about Syria...he loves Israel though...that'll piss off some terrorists..wants to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem
The four-day bombing campaign occurred at the same time the U.S. House of Representatives was conducting the impeachment hearing of President Clinton. Clinton was impeached by the House on 19 December, the last day of the bombing campaign. A few months earlier, similar criticism was levelled during Operation Infinite Reach, wherein missile strikes were ordered against suspected terrorist bases in Sudan and Afghanistan, on 20 August. The missile strikes began three days after Clinton was called to testify before a grand jury during the Lewinsky scandal and his subsequent nationally televised address later that evening in which Clinton admitted having an inappropriate relationship. The Operation Infinite Reach attacks became known as "Monica's War" among TV news people, due to the timing. ABC-TV announced to all stations that there would be a special report following Lewinsky's testimony before Congress, then the special report was pre-empted by the report of the missile attacks. The combination of the timing of that attack and Operation Desert Fox led to accusations of a Wag the Dog situation.
We can go back even further to Carter lobbying for a Palestinian state if you like...Cheney was always plugged into the region..so was the Bush family...Reagan just started our version of the Roman empire
The middle east was Carter's mess. He made Iran into what it's been - state sponsor of terrorist organizations. It was his mess. Now it's Obama's bloody awful mess. Much worse off than when he took office. The good news is Obama won't be making bad decisions much longer.
disagree....reason....Obama streamlined the way we support coalitions with drones and naval support instead of boots on the ground...he actually changed the way we conduct operations in a way that's almost eliminated American casualties in the region.....it's not worse now as far as American interests are concerned. We no longer need their oil and we're working with allies...not solo. If you were a believer in an American empire....you wouldn't see how I believe we have no business in their business anymore. I'm most worried that the Hawks in power want to bully the world to their liking and that's not a world I would like see for my grandchildren. Let's hope nuclear warhead escalation Trump fantasizes about never occurs. Let's hope Trump doesn't just feel like playing soldier with his new toys.
We have boots on the ground. https://theintercept.com/2016/04/29...-ground-in-syria-u-s-parses-boots-and-ground/ http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/35873-boots-on-the-ground-in-iraq-here-we-go-again We shouldn't bully the world. But once you've spent $1T+ and thousands of soldier's lives in a country, you have too many reasons to assure a good outcome. Anything less is a slap in the face to those soldiers who did serve and especially to those who lost life or limb.
Even the biased NYTimes gets it right once in a while. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/22/u...-us-should-expand-its-nuclear-capability.html Trump Says the U.S. Should Expand Its Nuclear Capacity Mr. Trump’s statement, in a midafternoon Twitter post, may have been a response to President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, who in a speech to his military’s leadership in Moscow earlier on Thursday vowed to strengthen Russia’s nuclear missiles. Mr. Putin said nuclear forces needed to be bolstered so they could “reliably penetrate any existing and prospective missile defense systems,” apparently a reference to the Pentagon’s efforts to develop systems capable of shooting down nuclear-armed rockets. Shortly after Mr. Putin’s comments were reported by the news media, Mr. Trump said on Twitter that the United States must “strengthen and expand” its nuclear forces “until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes.” He did not elaborate.
use your favorite dictionary and look up "almost" and "streamlined" .....yes..we have boots on the ground...not like George Bush boots on the ground..Obama has done a great job modernizing the military and the way we use it. Just curious.....I didn't think you liked or trusted info from the New York Times?
Your semantics are kind of silly at this point. If W had 100,000 on the ground and Obama 99,999, it's "not like George Bush boots on the ground." If Obama were a republican, he'd be branded a war criminal for bombing our allies without a declaration of war or even doing so beyond what the war powers act allows. I trust any news source IF I can verify the truth from other sources.
The CIA and FBI can't even do that....semantics? I commend Obama for streamlining the way we use the military and you make a minus 1 comparison to Bush which is not even minutely correct....like I said...your barbs at Obama are keeping you from sensible dialogue about these things...I find it telling that after all the mistrust you showed for the New York Times and Washington Post that you are now seeking your "truth" there......make up your mind Denny
Put away your board game....and you should really check your own assumptions based on your own prejudice against the current administration....I find that very shallow...which is sad because I would expect a Libertarian to have a more open view of the world stage. Since this campaign it seems your posts have gone from interesting food for thought to pretty much pure liberal bashing or Democrat bashing....the country needs less of this unless you want to keep dividing the teams into good guys and bad guys...you once mentioned that we're the same age or close to it...I'm curious...how did you avoid the draft?
Desert Storm....292 coalition forces killed.....35 thousand Iraqi troops killed.... George W Bush's invasion...5,000 troops killed, 18,ooo Iraqi troops killed 2011, President Barack Obama confirmed that all U.S. military personnel would leave Iraq by the end of 2011. As of December 6, 2011 there were 4,485 American soldiers killed in combat operations within Iraq.[22] On December 15, 2011, the United States formally ended its mission in Iraq.[23] On December 18, 2011, the United States completed its withdrawal from Iraq.[24][25][26].......
We've had fewer US military casualties under the current administration than in any large scale war we've ever waged....that's progress
Obama gave up all the gains made at the cost of those 4,485 lives. Who should be furious or insulted?
