Are you not seeing the money being given out around the league? I think that's a pretty damn good deal for us.
He was stellar in the playoffs, you are correct about that. I just.....$100M for a guy who's never been an All-Star? Goddamn, that's a lot.
I guess I kinda thought of him more like a 4-year $80 or $90 million guy. But 3/$100M....eh....okay. I guess.
Using whether or not a player makes an all star team to determine their worth is no longer the way to go. It just isn't in my opinion. It is a lot of money, but there are guys making more that I wouldn't want over him. Go check out some of those other contracts brother.
Nah, I'll take your word for it. I guess I'm just a decade behind. If people here are comfortable with it, then I guess I'm good with it too. I personally never thought that he quite lived up to the first $105M we paid him. I thought he could have been a little more consistent at times....and that was a 5 year contract. So I guess I'm just sticker-shocked for the moment. But I do admit that the salary cap has changed dramatically since we drafted him. Here's hoping the best for him, and his continuing improvement.....personally, I'd like to see his Defense improve, even slightly. I haven't followed the other contracts being handed out because I can't click on a goddamn video without hearing some talking head drool over LeBron, KD, Kawhi, Davis, the Clippers, LA, or New York. So I haven't bothered much.
Ok so we cant judge them by rings, we cant judge them by all star appearances, they get upset when their judged by analytics, is the eye test all we can use?
So thats how you got 40 wins! lol. We all tend to see what we want to see, while the eye test plays a big part in it, I think its good to try to use more tools than that. Ive got no problem with the extension, but I can also see why some people get frustrated with his game.
Dude's eyeing a career in media after he retires from the NBA. He's got to get some stuff out there. I have no problem at all with CJ (except I wish his defense was a little better )
I wish he was better at getting open without the ball. He’s runs a lot but he still doesnt get open from all the running he does. I also wish he was better at setting up team mates. However I like the extension. I like him.
I don’t hate this deal nor do I think it’s as amazing as most on here seem to think. It basically covers his years from 30 to 33 so he will likely be in decline for a part of that deal and not worth his contract, besides 2021 free agency class is setting up to be one of the strongest in a decade so it’s not a given he would receive a max offer then. On the other hand he’s a very good player. He will probably not make an All-Star team in his career and will remain one of the better complimentary talents in the league next to a superstar like Dame.
Remember when Aldridge walked away from the team without compensation right in the middle of his prime? Kinda shitty, wasn't it? This deal prevents that from happening with CJ. Very good news. If Simons comes along like we hope, it opens up the opportunity to trade either CJ or Simons for a more complementary star forward down the road. Portland has been really good in recent years at sniffing out and developing undervalued guards--Simons, Trent, Connaughton, Crabbe, Hood, Curry, Frazier, Dame, CJ. If there's one disadvantage that arises with Dame/CJ/Simons turning into the three-headed monster I'm expecting, it's that it kind of minimizes this other skill the team seems to have. There just aren't the minutes to develop and showcase other guards. We sure as fuck don't have a strong track record finding the same talent among 3s and 4s, so we might as well trade for them. But for now, yeah, I'm really glad CJ is happy to extend with the team at a reasonable market price. In the era of "player empowerment," it's great that the team has more control of what happens to its second best player.
Just to be clear, it doesn't feel like an anchor to me right now. And I hope that CJ continues his work ethic, which he always has. It only becomes an anchor if he stops working and feels like he has already earned it. I haven't seen that in him yet, and his backcourt mate will keep the pressure on for both of them to continue to improve until they win a title.
Now I kind of want to see Ant develop and contribute to a very quick, very good 3pt shooting, 3-guard lineup. That lineup with Collins and Nurkic backing them up could be really fun to watch.
Well, look at it this way. Would you take a significant pay decrease if you are just recently entering into your prime and coming off another solid year that got you the first pay raise? That's essentially what you are asking McCollum to do.
I'm not worried about that from McCollum as he is very close with Lillard and has similar work ethic. He has already proven that he's willing to put in the work.
