Does the designated player rule exist here and does it apply? If so, we already gave that to Dame. CJ was probably limited to 4 years from the beginning.
I'm really happy to see this stability..CJ earned it. We are building a core with a 4-5 year window to make some serious noise...I think this is the core group that really puts Portland on the map. There is something to be said for guys who do want to live and be here as a first option. I'm so glad we didn't spend this money on a Greg Monroe, Chandler Parsons or Dwight Howard.
I was about to say, "He just got a max deal, of COURSE he'll start". But then I remembered that Tristan Thompson signed a max deal just last summer and started fewer than half of Cleveland's games, so I figured that was a pretty silly statement. I presume he'll start, but I guess it's not necessarily set in stone. Crabbe is working on his handles, after all...
Ooooooo so who will be the frosting?! I would love to have a crazy good second unit like the Spurs have had in the past (with CJ at the helm).
Agreed, but I don't see it happening. I don't see how you can start a guy all season, give him a max extension, and then move him back to a reserve role.
The only thing that would prevent CJ from starting is injuries... God someone slap me now for even saying that!!!!
Here is a little of Olshey's thinking and why they did the deal now. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/source...06m-max-extension-with-blazers-174630994.html
Just because you don't start doesn't make you a "reserve." There are plenty of guys that come off the bench and play starter minutes. Right?
