I don't think it would be spent on someone else since we will be over the cap next year regardless if we kept CJ or let him leave.
I should have clarified. Others not one other. That money would be spread out there is no doubt. We are looking to win in the next 5 with Dame. If CJ goes down we are in bad shape and will bring someone of impact in and that impact will require that money. Either way I think it would be spent. Or close to it all being spent.
The contract is guaranteed a year before it needs to be. Whether the team would spend his contract money if he were somehow to leave as a FA (I seriously doubt it), doesn't seem to matter. And no, I don't think the poisoned contract makes any difference. We'd pay it.
Yes we would pay it but why? We probably just save about 20 mill by signing him now and the only risk was injury? Seems black and white to me. You don't build rosters and sign players based on fear of injuries, other than depth for depth... end of bench players. But your stars? You lock down whenever you can if your Portland..
If he gets hurt, we wouldn't have to pay $100M+. He's signed a year ahead of when he'd technically have to. The Blazers could have eliminated that $100M+ risk by waiting until the offseason.
And again, possibly ended up paying closer to $120 mill with potential player options after a couple years. I think everyone knows what can and cant be done., I think the issue is which risk do you take. Im with the Blazers camp in that they took the right risk. Look at AC this year?
It's not worth arguing, OB. Denny is biologically incapable of considering the validity of another person's argument.
Denny? LMAO. And here I thought you were vehemently against it the way you were tossing rebuttals out! I see this now.
Apparently the Blazers did gain something here. According to this article, they didn't actually give him a max contract tied to percent of the cap, so if the cap goes up, his salary will not.http://www.blazersedge.com/2016/7/3...collum-extension-max-contract-nba-free-agency
Did we really?? Yeah... I've been under that rock with the worms and pill bugs. Ever think we signed him to a reasonable contract to keep him as a tradeable asset?
