Thompson is still not really on my good side but he did spend an awful lot of money to bring in Charles Woodson(weather this will pay off is still in question) , and of course he brought in one my favorite College football players ever in A.J Hawk. He keeps saying he wants to build his team through the draft, and doing that is ok but you need to add an influx of veteran leadership, so signing some decent Free Agents is a must, However besides Woodson and Pickett, basically the only real ones worth mentioning are WR Marc Boregiter, LB Ben Taylor, and SS Marquand Manuel and Im not even sure why we signed him. I agree with your statement to an extent, but I think Thompson knows he's on a short leash after all the bad press from letting Whale, Rivera, and Sharper go and knows he gonna have to make some sort of splash in FA to get the fanbase and rest of the Front Office behind him, He is very big on shopping in Bargain Bin though, as shown by the wo Free Agent Linemen whom he brought in last year who I thought may be decent players but both busted with us pretty bad, Matt O'dwyer didn't even make the roster, and Adrian Klemm was benched in favor of a Rookie who played almost equally as bad. Not a very good way to shop if you ask me.

Why throw big money at Charles Woodson? He's got some talent, but he stays hurt so much. He hasn't played all 16 games since 2001. Until I looked at his NFL.com page, I didn't realize that he is starting to get some age on him too. Turns 30 in October.

Jury is still out. It's a boom or bust signing. I think it may pay off. In Oakland he was the #1. Here he's the #2. I think that helps him. Word around the league is he had a great off season (especially with $$$) and his first mini camp was great.

Time will tell right now though..

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Zackman)</div><div class='quotemain'>I certainly would <u>never</u> tease a fan of another team. Too much class for that.</div>
So, the NFL is a 31 team league? Miami plays in the world famous CFL and by C I mean Caribbean. LOL. That being said...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DolfanDale)</div><div class='quotemain'>It's early in the Nick Saban era, but he hasn't done anything for me to knock him. Surely, you haven't forgotten the crap that I gave "Teflon" Dave. Yes, Saban has the DWO stamp of approval, but I'm sure that we will be able to discuss any shortcomings objectively. Just don't hold your breath waiting because, so far, Saban has been brilliant.

Edit - By the way, while I respect the Patriots, I haven't inked them in to win the AFC East this year. My Phins may just give them some real competition this year.</div>
Actually, Dale, Beef, & myself were complaining about the vanilla wonder when most of us were still on that other site.

Wanny forcing out Dan was an ominous first sign in his sorry a$$ tenure. I blame Jimmy for "begging" Wayne into hiring Dave after Jimmy retired.

It is so far so good for Saban. I'll admit I was apprehensive when he was hired but learning he and Belichick had the same philosophy eased my concerns. Its still too early to judge Matt Roth (2nd rd pick in 2005) but this may be his "worst acquisition" to date.

I, too, have nothing but respect for Belichick, Kraft, & Brady. It will be a 2 team race in the AFCE this year. The great unknown is how the jets do. It would not shock me to see the Bills draft in the top 5 if not #1 in 2007.

Thirty isn't really all that old for a CB. Darrell Green played until he was 40...and started until he was 37. Woodson passed his physical and hasn't lost any speed yet. If I had to guess, he'll play CB for another 2 years or so and if he loses a step, the Pack will have him bulk up a bit and move him to safety.

Ultimately, the reason they paid him the money is because half a season of Woodson at corner still trumps a full season with Ahmad Carroll at corner. =)

The difference is; we got in on the ground floor.

Up until about draft time, you had nothing nice to say about TT and then you go and do a 180. hmmmmm?

Thats the truth. But, after wannstedt and spielman, it was predictable that you would.

I was never a big fan of Wanny or Spielman & was unsure of Saban when he was hired.

How does cautiously getting in the ground floor of supporting Saban compare to Porky's pulling a John Kerry about the Packers GM?

The big difference is, that you have evidence to support your reasons for liking saban, like the success he has had everywhere, and he has just blind faith to a guy who took a team that was a contender every year and turned it into crap.

Had you not mentioned contender I'd could swear that we are talking about Millen again. LOL??

I'll admit I like alot of Thompson has done in the draft but his still kind of bargain bin style irritates the piss out of me, he's probably a good bussiness man but not so much a Football team GM, much like in San Fran. Only time will tell, Speaking Of which, A.J Hawk was at an AFL 2 Game in my town last night! I passed up 5 tickets to go too! I missed my hero!

Actually FP was more so the guy spoken out against TT on this board. Not so much me. In fact I supported TT with the Walker situation... and I like how this off seasons gone for the Packers. I understand my team is building for the future and I think Thompson is approaching it smart. Whether I'm right or wrong time will tell.

Thompson inherited a team that was heading for crap. Sherman was awful as a GM and put the Packers in the mess. (Liked him as a coach) Thompson needs to try and fix it. I like what he's done so far but whether this pays off once again time will tell.

Edit: Frankly I don't think he's even close to the GM of the year like Millen would be.. [IMG]

You have to give millen credit in one regard. he certainly makes it look like everyone on this forum is qualified to be GM of the lions!
