Trump serves burgers, fries and pizza to college football champions Clemson By Samuel Chamberlain | Associated Press President Donald Trump talks to the media about the table full of fast food in the State Dining Room of the White House in Washington, Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, for the reception for the Clemson Tigers. If you're President Trump and the Tigers in question are the college football playoff champion Clemson Tigers, the answer is obvious. "We ordered American fast food, paid for by me. Lots of hamburgers, lots of pizza," Trump told reporters Monday evening after returning to the White House from New Orleans. "We have some very large people that like eating, so I think we're going to have a little fun." Clemson, led by head coach Dabo Swinney, won their second national championship in three seasons on Jan. 7 by blowing out the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide 44-16 in Santa Clara, Calif. With the win, Clemson completed the first 15-0 colege football season since the 1897 Penn Quakers. Also on offer were boxed burgers from McDonald's, including Big Macs. White House cups bearing the presidential seal held French fries White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said much of the White House residence staff has been furloughed due to the ongoing partial government shutdown, ""so the president is personally paying for the event to be catered with some of everyone's favorite fast foods." Several young men were spotted eating multiple burgers at the standup tables dotting the East Room. The president is a noted fast food fan, particularly McDonald's and Wendy's. “I’m a very clean person. I like cleanliness, and I think you’re better off going there than maybe someplace that you have no idea where the food’s coming from. It’s a certain standard,” he said in a 2016 interview. “I think the food’s good,” he added. The Clemson team's visit is its second since Trump took office. The Tigers last visited in June 2017 after their championship run the previous season. Swinney has nominated this season's undefeated Tigers as the best college team ever. Trump called them a "great team, an unbelievable team." College football has managed to avoid such political controversies, with last year's champion Alabama also visiting the White House. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
I've never actually been in there. Why would any middle aged guy spend any his time in there when there is all that sports talk, humorous posting and fetish specific porn to be had? I bet that's a question the voter demographic consultants hired by the DP never asked!
He's the absolute definition of inherited wealth. Expensive plates/cheap food. Ever talked to a person who works as a domestic in a rich person's house? Rich people who inherit hate to part with money but love to give an expensively looking presentation. Like Christmas time luncheon for the help. To Trump, this is his idea of first class service. If Phil Knight was taking out the entire Oregon Duck's Football Team to a Post-CFB Championship Bash do you think he'd scrimp on the bill of fare? Not a chance in hell. To somebody who earned their money but has a pure understanding of the emotional limits of wealth and personal valuation... it would be a different story,
Just reminds me of HW Bush not knowing how much a gallon of milk costs. I'll be President. I'll even buy the Prime ribeyes at Costco although I don't think it matters that much on ribeyes.
Or the other possibility is you are overanalyzing this. He thought people would get a kick out of it, which they clearly did. Good clean fun.
Dude. A guy from the most burned out, rust belt shit hole would know that it's cheap and tacky. That's how you feed a High School Spelling Bee Contest not the Collegiate Football Champions of the USA. How the hell am I over analyzing this?
