The Clips obviously don't want him getting beat up, so they pad him and give him a helmet

The Clippers have to get some use out of Griffin while he's sitting out.

If there is going to be a name change, I suspect it will be California Condors, not Los Angeles Condors. I think Balmer wants to grow the fan base to draw on the entire state, especially southern California. The condor is the state bird of California. The helmet design is an exact copy of the California state flag. He wants to be California's team.

The Clippers so want to be the Warriors right now. Back in the early 70s, when the Warriors moved from San Francisco, they wisely did not change their name to the Oakland Warriors. That would have alienated their existing fan base. By going with Golden State, they were able to keep their existing fans in San Francisco, add new fans in Oakland and San Jose and now that they are the hottest thing out there, they can draw fans from all over the state. I expect Balmer wants to do the same - not just share Los Angeles with the Lakers, but expand their brand to include all of southern California, and if they ever start competing for championships, draw band wagon fans from the entire state.

That would be a mistake IMO.

Maybe GS should co-opt "California" Warriors before Balmer has a chance to do it. Even if Balmer blocks them, he wouldn't be able to do it afterward based on whatever argument he might make to block them.

... Okay I'm fully convinced that the Clippers have hired a third grade class in Pacific Palisades to design their rebrand and mascot.

In my opinion, each team's mascot should look just like its owner. A mold could be made with the owner lying in wax. The owner exits, pour plastic into the mold, scoop out most of the plastic while it's liquid, and you have a Saran Wrap shape of the owner. Paint it in a psychedelic pattern. Have an actor wear it.

Also, every message board should have such a mascot, the owner's Mini-Me. And every team and message board should have a Trump impersonator. They could have a competition event at All-Star Game Saturday.

Dumbass Clippers releasing a Bird mascot right before we potentially whoop their ass in the playoffs.

Even Blaze is going to get in on that.
