Wes is such a warrior and so loyal. I wish we could of kept him but I knew he was too expensive.

kind of cut off, but Cuban says he told Matthews that he wouldn't hold Matthews to the deal if he wanted to go elsewhere, but Wes wanted to go to Dallas. Good on Wes.

Weird situation for the Mavs. They're high centered with their crotch on the fence right now, which is a pretty uncomfortable place to be. They've got some good talent, but not enough to compete in the West. They've got no young assets and not much trade bait. These posts make it sound like Cuban is going to try to patch together a passable lineup, but I wonder if that will be enough for Dirk. Might he decide he doesn't want to spend his last few years stuck on a mediocre team and demand a trade to a contender? He seems like a pretty loyal guy, but loyalty has limits in the NBA and he'd be far from the first guy to look for a better opportunity in his waning years. Whole situation sucks for Wes, but he got a nice payday.

Hmm...I wonder if there are any teams out there with cap space who run a system conducive to Dirk's game...

Yeah, if the Blazers could get Nic, Wes, & RoLo back that might make some sense. As it is, if Dirk wants to force his way out, he'd be more likely to want to go to a team where he would be the final piece that moves that team into contention for a deep run. Dallas probably wouldn't help anybody out in the West (especially the Clippers), so maybe the Cavs, Heat or Hawks? Probably won't happen this year, but I could maybe see it if Cuban decides to go into full tank mode.
