    Chivas USA acquires Oswaldo Minda
    Immediate Impact
MF stood out to Fraser while scouting other players in Ecuador

Chivas USA have added yet another piece to the puzzle for next season, signing Ecuadorian midfielder Oswaldo Minda from Deportivo Quito on Wednesday.

Although the move seemed to be a certainty in recent weeks due to Minda’s comments about Chivas’ interest in the Ecuadorian media, the tenacious two-way midfielder had to fight his way onto Chivas' radar initially

Chivas USA part ways with Umana, three others
Rojiblancos also let go of Mondaini, Arias, Estupiñán during rebuild

The exhaustive roster turnover at Chivas USA continued on Wednesday, with head coach Robin Fraser confirming the departures of four members of his 2011 roster.

In a phone interview with MLSsoccer.com, Fraser said the club had parted ways with defender Michael Umaña, midfielder Marcos Mondaini, goalkeeper Sergio Arias and forward Víctor Estupiñán.

The out-of-contract Umaña, who played the most minutes of the quartet, departs Chivas USA after serving as a regular fixture in Fraser’s backline last season.

    Congrats 2012 ChivaGirls
    [IMG]
    Meet the 2012 squad here!

It was a 3 day audition process, but after preliminary auditions, business interviews and the final dance call back on Tuesday, January 24th at Meridian Sports Club in Fullerton, the judges came to their final decision in selecting the following 19 young ladies to represent Chivas USA as their teams ambassadors and game day entertainment. We would like to thank ALL of the ladies that auditioned for the 2012 ChivaGirls and hope to see everyone return back to audition again next season.

    Chivas USA unveils new jersey
Over 30,000 feet above sea level, Chivas USA unveils the new 2012 season jersey

“Welcome aboard. This is Volaris flight #912 from Guadalajara with Los Angeles as its final destination, this is your captain,” up until this moment, everything sounds like things you’d hear before a flight takes off. However, the more than 150 passengers on board exchanged surprised looks when the captain added, “I want to welcome each and every one of you, but in particular the members of the soccer team Chivas USA, who are joining us today and will present us, exclusively, their new 2012 season jersey!”

Xolos de Tijuana vs. Chivas USA

    [IMG][IMG]
Chivas USA to use Tijuana friendly as measuring stick

CARSON, Calif. – Chivas USA’s preseason is winding down and gaining game experience is paramount as the 2012 season quickly approaches.

The Rojiblancos will get their first dress rehearsal on Wednesday in their first preseason friendly when they take on Mexican Primera División side Club Tijuana at San Diego’s Torero Stadium.

With their season opener against the Houston Dynamo less than two weeks away, Chivas' match against the Xolos offers another opportunity for the club to see how far they’ve grown this preseason.

“We need to get up to competitive game speed and there is no other way than to be thrown into it,” head coach Robin Fraser told reporters on Monday. “If you play against a good team which is doing well in the Mexican first division, which is a good league, then you get to play a game in a stadium with lights on and a crowd and it’s all a process to get ready for the season.”

Juan Pablo Angel to stick with Chivas USA for 2012
    [IMG]

CARSON, Calif. – Chivas USA announced today that Colombian forward Juan Pablo Angel will remain with the club during the 2012 MLS season. Details on the conversations were not released.

“At Chivas USA we are committed to assembling the best possible team, and having Juan Pablo Angel continue [with the team] for the 2012 season is proof of our organization’s commitment,” said the Red-and-White’s General Manager Jose Domene. “We know that Angel will have another great campaign, just like he did last season, bringing joy to our fans with his goals.”

Chivas' HDC reconfiguration augers future new stadium
    [IMG]

CARSON, Calif. – If fans noticed anything during Chivas USA's First Kick loss to 2011 MLS Cup finalists Houston this past weekend, it was that the club has worked on being tighter at the back in 2012. They also might have noticed that matches are a much more intimate affair.

The club announced last on Saturday, on the eve of their opener, that they would alter the capacity of The Home Depot Center from 27,000 to 18,800 seats for all home matches in 2012. In order to limit capacity, the stadium’s east side upper deck and the entire north end stand (pictured, in background) are covered in team banners.

Chivas' HDC facelift made its debut on Sunday during the club’s 1-0 defeat to the Dynamo and was met with complete support from MLS Commissioner Don Garber.

“[Eighteen thousand] will be the size of their new stadium,” Garber said. “Whatever stadium that they build is going to be 18,000 seats. So I believe that they’re going to make progress on that stadium over the next couple of years, and their view was why not get started with a manifest that will replicate what that stadium will look like. The league was very supportive of the move.”

After weeks of waiting, Chivas' Angel could finally return

CARSON, Calif. – Juan Pablo Ángel believes that he’s ready to return to action this week when Chivas USA take on the Philadelphia Union (10:30 pm ET, watch LIVE online), and it’s not a moment too soon for the fiercely competitive forward.

Wild day ends with vastly improved Chivas USA outfit
    [IMG]

CARSON, Calif. – It’s been a wild week for Chivas USA, but nothing topped a dramatic day of trades on Thursday that the Rojiblancos believe will help them contend for a playoff berth and, ultimately, an MLS Cup.

The Rojiblancos completed a deal that sent defender Heath Pearce to the New York Red Bulls for forward Juan Agudelo, and also completed the long-speculated deal that brought center back Danny Califf to the Home Depot Center in exchange for midfielder Mike Lahoud.

Califf’s move ends a bizarre rumor storm that had engulfed the club for several days, but Chivas USA head coach Robin Fraser admitted that it was necessary to deal with the strange situation as the club looked to make a pair of deals all at once.

“There were a lot of things swirling, but certainly it made sense that if we lose a center back then we need to bring in a center back,” Fraser said. “Then the timing of the moves just worked out. That was certainly a consideration for us, to make sure that we don’t cut off our nose to spite our face. We wanted to make sure that we were able to cover ourselves and make improvements all at once.”

Agudelo, Califf eager for fresh starts with Chivas USA
    [IMG]

CARSON, Calif. – Neither wanted it to be this way. But after tumultuous endings with their former clubs, Juan Agudelo and Danny Califf now get a fresh start with Chivas USA, and they’re looking to make the most of their new opportunity.

Less than 24 hours after being dealt west from New York and Philadelphia, respectively, the pair was on the training field with the Rojiblancos on Friday as they prepared for Saturday’s SuperClásico matchup with the LA Galaxy

After finally joining the Rojiblancos, both players have put their past behind them and relishing the opportunity to make an impact in the SuperClásico.

“It’s going to be a fight, but I’ve been in plenty of those,” said Califf. “Probably not a whole lot of soccer in the beginning, more battles. But it’s kind of mean, so that’s fun.”

New signings play key role in Chivas' win vs. LA
    [IMG]

CARSON, Calif. – With one victory in the SuperClásico, Chivas USA was able to wipe out a pair of dubious distinctions and build confidence for the long season ahead.

Jose Erik Correa’s penalty kick goal in the 72nd minute gave the Rojiblancos not only their first victory of the season at the Home Depot Center in 2012, but their first victory against the LA Galaxy in five years.

Recap: Chivas USA vs New York Red Bulls

Angel, Cooper trade goals as Chivas, RBNY tie 1-1

HARRISON, N.J. – Fresh off their takedown of the LA Galaxy, Chivas USA picked up a valuable point on the road on Wednesday night with a thrilling 1-1 draw against the Eastern Conference-leading New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena.

Juan Pablo Ángel scored the opener early in the second half in his return to Red Bull Arena, but Kenny Cooper continued his torrid scoring streak by knocking in the equalizer shortly after.

The draw saw Chivas USA move to 4-6-2 on the season, and extended their unbeaten streak to three games. It also marked the first time the 8-3-3 Red Bulls failed to win a game since April 22, a stretch of five matches.

Angel, Agudelo still developing partnership for Chivas
    [IMG]

CARSON, Calif. – Chivas USA have been seeking a strike force to break them out of their offensive doldrums, and the combination of Juan Pablo Ángel and Juan Agudelo just may be the one to do so – but they’ll need some seasoning first.

In what was just their second start together during Chivas’ 3-0 loss to Real Salt Lake last weekend, the former New York Red Bulls teammates combined well but were unable to seriously challenge the RSL defense until the game’s dying minutes. Despite the fact that the pair was unable to score, Ángel (above left) cautioned that partnerships don't click overnight.

Chivas MF Minda out indefinitely with dislocated shoulder
    [IMG]

CARSON, Calif. — Chivas USA midfielder Oswaldo Minda dislocated his shoulder in training on Saturday and will be lost for an indefinite amount of time, head coach Robin Fraser told reporters on Monday.

“He had a collision with the ground,” said Fraser, who missed around a month for the LA Galaxy in 1999 with the same injury. “He just fell, landed awkwardly and his shoulder came out.”

    Recap:
    Chivas 1, Timbers 0
    [IMG]
Ecuadorian forward Miller Bolanos scored his first MLS goal and helped earn the team 3 points

CARSON, Calif. – Chivas USA made an early goal from Miller Bolaños stand as the club beat Portland by 1-0 in a rare Wednesday afternoon match.

The victory moved Chivas four points clear of Portland and, at least temporarily, to within three points of fifth place in the Western Conference. Portland, meanwhile, stayed on 19 points, even with FC Dallas at the bottom of the table.

Chivas opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Ryan Smith knifed through Portland’s left side. Smith beat Portland’s Steven Smith, danced past Mamadou “Futty” Danso and sent the ball in from the right side of the goal area. Timbers goalkeeper Troy Perkins dove and got his hands on the ball, but could only slow it down as it rolled out to Bolaños. The Ecuadorian coolly slotted the ball into a gaping net as Kosuke Kimura tried in vain to stop him.

    For Chivas & LA

finally a SuperClasico that truly matters

CARSON, Calif. – Emotion and passion have always been the two key elements in SuperClasicos gone by.

    Importance has not.

Saturday’s meeting between Chivas USA and the LA Galaxy, though, is different. The Rojiblancos are battling for a playoff spot with their in-stadium rivals as only a narrow margin separates the two sides. As early as it still is in the season, a win for either team could prove a decisive moment in their playoff fates.

“These Clasico games are crazy so we just need to make sure we come in, are focused and take care of business,” Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy said. “Without a doubt, we need to make sure we take advantage of these. This is where we could really do some damage.”

Feeling "great," Goats' Agudelo eyes return vs Portland
    [IMG]

CARSON, Calif. — For most of July, the news for Juan Agudelo has not been good.

A swollen knee banished him to the sidelines and kept the 19-year-old from playing in any games this month.

However, the chance to make one final appearance before the month ends has seemingly presented itself. Agudelo returned to training this week and expressed optimism about his chances of playing in the Red-and-White’s match at Portland on Saturday (11 pm ET, watch on MLS LIVE).

Califf pumped for first Chivas goal, first win in Portland
    [IMG]

If Chivas USA reach the postseason, they'll have to send a thank-you card to the Rose City.

Danny Califf scored as a scrappy Chivas side beat Portland 1-0 at JELD-WEN Field on Saturday, and in doing so, completed a season sweep of the Timbers.

Just 10 days ago, the Red-and-White took an identical result from a home match against the Timbers, and having faced them so soon was a benefit for Chivas, who went into the game with the confidence.

“It helped to have played them recently," Califf (above, third from right) told reporters after Saturday's victory. "I think the personnel they put out tonight didn’t change much from when we played. “That was good in knowing how to match up with them.”
