Chivas USA Hand Real First Point in 1-1 Tie with NE Revolution

Chivas USA (3-10-3) played the New England Revolution (5-5-6) to a 1-1 draw Saturday night at the StubHub Center in the sides' first and only meeting of the season. The Rojiblancos went ahead in the first half on midfielder Laurent Courtois' first goal of the season, but the Revs responded with a late goal by Chad Barrett. With the tie, Chivas USA Head Coach José Luis Real recorded his first point at home and broke the team's current losing streak.

The Rojiblancos took the 1-0 advantage in the 18th minute when forward Tristan Bowen controlled a loose ball inside the arc and dished it off to Courtois, who unleashed his left-footed strike from just outside the box and to the right of the arc to find the upper right corner of the net past a diving Bobby Shuttleworth.

Playing a goal up, the Red-and-White continued to push their attack forward and were close to adding a second score, as Courtois tried to return the favor to Bowen in the 34th minute. The midfielder got around a Revs defender with a solo play outside the right side of the box and sent a cross to Bowen, who gathered the ball near the penalty mark with his back to the net, turned and fired, but the shot traveled wide right of the post. The Goats continued to pepper New England's goal as Courtois got off shots from nearly the same spot just outside the box in the 38th and 39th minute.

In the 48th minute Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy made a diving save to his left on a shot that was sent from the left side of the box and on frame to preserve the one-goal advantage. Kennedy again was stout in the 64th minute when Kelyn Rowe worked the ball down the center of the attacking third and dropped it off to Diego ***undez on his left, who one-timed his shot, but the attempt was denied as Kennedy controlled the shot.

A minute later, the Rojiblancos found themselves on New England's doorstep off a corner kick. As the ball was played into the short area, midfielder Gabriel Farfan got off a header that was on frame, but a leaping save by Shuttleworth was able to keep the match at one-nil.

The Revs evened the match in the 88th minute when ***undez sent a long cross from the right seam to the far post where Barrett was able to get a touch on the pass and the ball rattled passed the goal line, as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Chivas USA will have a short week as they now hit the road for a three-game road trip that will kick off with a Fourth of July match at FC Dallas beginning at 6 p.m. (PT) at FC Dallas Stadium. The match will be the second of three meetings between the Western Conference opponents this season and can be heard in Spanish on W Radio 690 AM. Chivas USA Record Second Consecutive Point in Scoreless Tie at FC Dallas

Chivas USA (3-10-4) played FC Dallas to a scoreless tie Thursday night at FC Dallas Stadium to record their second consecutive point. With the result, Red-and-White goalkeeper and captain Dan Kennedy recorded Chivas' first clean sheet of the season and handed their conference rival their third draw at home.

The first half featured plenty of offensive threats by both sides, as forward Jose Correa got off the match's first shot on frame inside the first minute off a turnover from about 25 yards out that was controlled by FCD goalkeeper Raul Fernandez. The Rojiblancos were able to get looks at goal in the first part of the initial 45 on a series of crosses from outside the left side of the box, but could not finish the attempts.

In the 13th minute, Jorge Villafaña sent a cross into the box that was cleared away by FCD's defense and right to Carlos Alvarez. The midfielder gathered the ball on top of the arc but let off a shot that sailed over the crossbar. The Goats began to take shots from the distance as both Eric Avila and Correa worked the ball in Chivas' attacking third and found themselves in space for each of them to unleash strikes from about 30 yards out on the right seam in the 30th and 33rd minute, respectively.

The Red-and-White had their best look at going ahead in the 36th minute after playing through a corner kick. As the ball was played into the box it was momentarily loose and center back Walter Vilchez, with his back to goal, heal-flicked the ball to Correa who was onside behind the six-yard box. The forward gathered the pass, turned and got off a shot, but the attempt was just wide of the left post to keep the contest locked at zero heading into the second half.

Chivas USA had a dangerous look at breaking the scoreless match in the 54th minute when Avila made a solo move into the right side of the box and crossed it to Gabriel Farfan, who one-timed his shot near the short area, but the midfielder's shot was deflected. Alvarez tried to follow up the attempt with a shot of his own but by then the FCD defense was able break up the threat. Kennedy was stout for his side as well, as he came up big in the 87th minute. FCD got off a cross from the left sideline from Jair Benitez who found Blas Perez near the penalty spot for a header. But Kennedy was there to deny the shot, keeping the clean sheet intact.

With the last minutes of stoppage time counting down, forward Julio Morales - who came into the match in the second half to make his first appearance for the Rojiblancos since completing his international call-up duty with Mexico's U20's - created space for himself on top of the arc and unleashed a potent left-footed strike that was on frame. Only a diving save by Fernandez was able to keep it from finding the back of the net, as the match ended in a scoreless draw.

Chivas USA will continue their 10-day road trip when they travel north of the border to square off with the Montreal Impact on Sunday, July 7, beginning at 4 p.m. (PT) at Stade Saputo. The match will be the first and only meeting between the clubs during the 2013 campaign and can be heard in Spanish on W Radio 690 AM. Chivas USA Tie Montreal 1-1 to Extend Unbeaten Run to Three Straight

Chivas USA (3-10-5) played the Montreal Impact to a 1-1 draw in their first match ever at Stade Saputo Sunday night in the second leg of their three-game road trip. The Rojiblancos were led by Eric Avila's second-half score and with the result, the Goats extend their unbeaten run to three straight. Montreal's Patrice Bernier equalized for the home side on a penalty kick.

The Red-and-White looked to take the first-half lead and had a dangerous look at goal in the 31st minute off Josue Soto's strike from the left seam outside the box. The left back's left-footed shot was on frame and heading inside the far post, but was kept out by a diving save by Montreal's goalkeeper Troy Perkins to keep the match scoreless.

Chivas USA took the lead in the 55th minute on a wild sequence initiated by Jorge Villafaña's defensive pressure on the left sideline. The midfielder dispossessed Hassoun Camara inside the attacking half and worked the ball down the center of the field, dropping it off to Jose Correa on his left. The forward then sent a cross from the left side of the box into the short area, where the ball was momentarily cleared out by Montreal's defense but remained loose. Avila recovered the ball and got off a shot that crashed under the bottom half of the crossbar and bounced just outside the goal line and back toward him. The midfielder followed up with a left-footed strike that was powered to the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage.

Chivas USA goalkeeper and captain Dan Kennedy came up with crucial stops in the second half to keep the Red-and-White ahead. In the 60th minute the Red-and-White 'keeper denied a Marco Di Vaio header from point-blank range after getting on the end of a cross from the left wing. Kennedy again was stout in the 71st minute with his diving save of Daniele Paponi's left-footed shot near the arc that was aimed inside the right post.

The home side equalized in the 80th minute right after being awarded a penalty kick for defender Mario de Luna's tackle on Sanna Nyassi inside the edge of the left side of the box. Bernier lined up and found the back of the net toward the lower right corner for his second score of the season.

The sides continued to battle in search of a potential game-winner as each club brought on their final subs off the bench. But the clubs would have to settle for the point as the match ended locked at one apiece.

Chivas USA will conclude their three-game road trip when they continue their stay in Eastern Conference territory to battle the Philadelphia Union on Friday, July 12, beginning at 4:30 p.m. (PT) at PPL Park. The match will be the first and only meeting between the clubs during the 2013 campaign and can be heard in Spanish on W Radio 690 AM. Chivas USA Fall 3-1 at Philadelphia Union

Chivas USA (3-11-5) fell 3-1 Friday night to the Philadelphia Union at a rain-soaked PPL Park. The Rojiblancos took the initial lead on Jose Correa's first-half score, but the home side responded with three unanswered goals in the second half by Brian Carroll, Michael Farfan and Conor Casey.

The Rojiblancos went up a goal in the 14th minute when Jorge Villafaña pounced on a turnover outside the edge of the left side of the box. The midfielder worked the ball into the box and drew Philadelphia goalkeeper Zac MacMath far off his line and played a cross to Correa, who was left unmarked on the penalty spot for the left-footed tap-in to take the 1-0 advantage.

Chivas USA goalkeeper and Captain Dan Kennedy was solid in goal as he denied Union midfielder Danny Cruz from inside the left side of the box in a one-on-one meeting in the 31st minute. Cruz received a pass from inside the arc and was left unmarked, forcing Kennedy to come off his line to turn away the threat and preserve the lead.

The Goats looked to get into dangerous spaces and extend their lead, as midfielder Gabriel Farfan - who was making his first appearance at PPL since being acquired by the Red-and-White in May via trade - worked the ball in the middle of the attacking third, created space for himself and unleashed a right-footed strike from about 25 yards out that was on frame. MacMath had to quickly bolt to his right to keep the shot from going in.

The home side equalized in the 58th minute when they played through a corner kick. Forward Sebastien Le Toux crossed the ball from outside the left edge of the box to Carroll, who deflected an initial header by Casey from the six-yard line inside the near post.

In the 60th minute, Villafaña looked to give the Red-and-White the lead back, as he worked the ball on the left wing with a defender battling him for possession, but the midfielder pushed his shot wide of the left post.

With the Rojiblancos playing a man down beginning in the 79th minute, Philadelphia would go on to pull away with two late scores. The Union were awarded an indirect kick from seven yards out after Josue Soto was sent off for his second yellow card, which Le Toux laid off to Farfan for his shot that found the top of the net over the defensive wall in the 82nd minute. Philadelphia put the finishing touch on the match seven minutes later when Casey got on the end of a Fabinho cross to put it past Kennedy for the 3-1 result.

Chivas USA return home after their three-game road trip and will host Toronto FC in a mid-week match at the StubHub Center on Wednesday, July 17, beginning at 7:30 p.m. (PT). The game will be the first and only meeting between the clubs during the 2013 campaign and can be heard in Spanish on W Radio 690 AM. Kick Off: Carlos Bocanegra makes winning return to MLS
    [IMG]

BOCA RETURNS… CHIVAS WIN! Chivas USA have it figured out. Bring in a former USMNT captain and you record a shutout and snap a 14-game winless streak. Welcome back to MLS for the first time since 2003, Carlos Bocanegra. The Goats won their first game since March 30, as they beat Toronto FC 1-0, despite playing 65 minutes of the game down a man. And another Chivas debutant Erick “Cubo” Torres was delighted to grab the winner. “It has a lot of value because we played a man down, but we never lost hope. That led to this victory.”

Chivas USA Fall 2-0 to San Jose Earthquakes

Chivas USA fell, 2-0, Saturday night against in-state rival the San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Quakes were led by a pair of Chris Wondolowski scores to come away with the home result.

The Rojiblancos looked to get numbers forward and get into dangerous spots in their attacking third from the opening whistle, as right back and youth academy product Marco Delgado worked the ball on the right wing and played it into the short area in the eighth minute. But San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch was able to get to the pass before any of Chivas' strikers could get on the end of the entry.

In the 30th minute center back Carlos Bocanegra sent a long ball over the top that led forward Julio Morales into the box and left the young striker in a one-on-one meeting with Busch. Morales squared up to goal wide of the left post and got off a shot on frame, but Busch denied the strike. Five minutes later, Delgado played a ball from inside the midfield line to Erick Torres who was left momentarily unmarked to the right of the arc. Torres took a quick shot that landed outside the right post and into the side netting to keep the match locked at zero.

The home side went ahead in the 45th minute when Steven Beitashour played a long ball over the top into the box that defender Victor Bernardez headed back to the trailing Wondolowski, who then headed the pass past Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy's left to go into the half leading 1-0.

The Goats looked as though they had pulled even in the 58th minute off a free kick taken by midfielder Edgar Mejia just inside the midfield line. Mario de Luna got a header on the entry and placed it inside the right post from the six-yard line, but the score was waived off for offsides.

Beginning in the 63rd minute the Red-and-White were left playing a man down after Bocanegra was sent off with a straight red on what the referee deemed as a reckless tackle in the Quakes' offensive third. The Goats continued to look for the equalizer as they brought on midfielder Carlos Alvarez in the 76th minute for an offensive spark, but were unable to generate a comeback.

Playing with the advantage, the 'Quakes doubled their lead in the 87th minute when Wondolowski knocked in a rebound inside the box after Kennedy denied the previous shot to secure the 2-0 result.

Chivas USA return to action on Sunday, Aug. 11, when they host Western Conference rival the Colorado Rapids in an 8 p.m. (PT) match at the StubHub Center. The match will mark the third and final meeting of the 2013 campaign between the sides this season and will be televised in Spanish on UniMas and can be heard in Spanish on W Radio 690 AM. Chivas USA Fall at Home 3-1 to FC Dallas

Chivas USA fell Wednesday night, 3-1, in the third and final meeting against FC Dallas at the StubHub Center. The Rojiblancos took the initial lead on Bryan de la Fuente's first-half goal in his season debut on fellow academy product Marco Delgado's assist. FCD responded with three unanswered scores in the second half by Blas Perez, David Ferreira and Ramon Nuez to take the road win and even the season series at a win and draw apiece.

The sides came out looking to get into spaces in the attacking third and began testing the opposing goalkeeper by getting in and around the box. Red-and-White 'keeper and captain Dan Kennedy kept the match scoreless with his key save in the 14th minute on Blas Perez's shot from the right side of the box that was on frame and directed inside the left post. Kennedy leaped to his right and batted the strike away with his right hand to deny the threat.

The Rojiblancos broke open the scoreless match in the 43rd minute when Delgado chipped a pass over FCD's defense to De la Fuente inside the box. The recently re-acquired midfielder chested the pass down and beat keeper Raul Fernandez with a right-footed shot to take a 1-0 advantage heading into the half.

Playing up a goal in the second half, the Goats looked to extend their lead. In the 57th minute De la Fuente sent a cross from the left side to Erick Torres near the short area that was broken up in a collision with Fernandez. Chivas was then awarded a corner kick as a result. As the ball was sent into the box, it was headed high in the air by FCD. Center back Mario de Luna got then a clean shot on the rebound, but his volley attempt sailed high of the crossbar.

The visitors equalized in the 71st minute when Ferreira chipped a long pass over the top along the left sideline to Fabian Castillo. The midfielder served a pass to Perez who was positioned outside the box and got off a shot beating Kennedy to the lower left corner of the net.

The Rojiblancos looked to reclaim the lead and extend their home unbeaten streak to four, but the visitors pulled away with two goals in the final four minutes of the match. Nuez slotted a pass to Ferreira as he got behind the defense and knocked in the go-ahead goal just inside the right post. Four minutes later, Nuez received a pass from Perez on the left side of the box and powered a shot that landed in the right side netting to put the final marker at 3-1.

Chivas USA will return to action as part of their short week to close out their three-game homestand when they host the New York Red Bulls on Sunday, Aug. 25, in a 2 p.m. (PT) kickoff at the StubHub Center. The match will be the only meeting between the sides during the 2013 campaign and will be televised in Spanish on UniMas. For radio users, the match will also be broadcasted in Spanish on W Radio 690 AM. For more information visit cdchivasusa.com and follow us on Twitter @cdchivasusa and Facebook.com/chivasusa.

Chivas USA defeat the New York Red Bulls 3-2 at the StubHub Center

CARSON, Calif. -- Chivas USA made sure to prevent another club record-setting winless streak, capping their three-game home stand with a 3-2 victory against the New York Red Bulls on Sunday afternoon at StubHub Center.

Erick “Cubo” Torres cashed in a rebound to give the Rojiblancos a two-goal lead in the 81st minute before Dax McCarty got the Red Bulls back to within one five minutes later. Bobby Burling cleared a dangerous shot from Tim Cahill in stoppage time to preserve the win.

The Goats (5-14-6) snapped their four-match winless drought, this after suffering a string of 14 earlier this season. New York remained winless on the road against Western Conference teams and, with the defeat, have dropped seven of 14 overall away from home this season.

    Cubo does it again
Forward knocks in eventual game-winner to deliver his seventh goal of the season

Sunday’s game-winning goal performance by Chivas USA forward Erick “Cubo” Torres is starting to become somewhat customary for the Red-and-white, and they don’t mind at all seeing him do his trademark robot celebration dance as much as possible. The 20-year-old striker pounced on a ball near the penalty spot and put it past D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid in the 51st minute to help deliver his new club the 1-0 shutout.

Chivas USA Draw the Timbers 1-1 at Home

Chivas USA played the Portland Timbers to a 1-1 draw Saturday night at the StubHub Center to extend their unbeaten run to six out of the last seven home matches. The Rojiblancos took the advantage in the first half on Bryan de la Fuente's header and Timbers were able to pull one back to equalize early in the second half with Diego Valeri's score from outside the box for the sides to come away with a point apiece.

The Red-and-White had the first dangerous look at opening the scoreboard just two minutes into the match when midfielder Eric Avila got deep into the box near the end line and sent a low cross through the short area, but the pass went through untouched. The Goats continued to get numbers forward and into range throughout the half, as Oswaldo Minda sent a long ball over the top and into the box, which Erick Torres headed back to a trailing Edgar Mejia who got off a clean shot that was pushed wide left of the post.

Chivas went up 1-0 in the 23rd minute when left back Carlos Borja worked the ball into the attacking third and sent a cross from the left seam that De la Fuente was able head in for his second goal of the season past Portland goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts toward the upper-right corner of the net.

The Timbers evened the score in the 50th minute on Valeri's strike from behind the 18-yard line after Jose Valencia played the midfielder a pass from inside the box, which he was able to power toward the back of the net.

Locked in a 1-1 tie, the Red-and-White went to their bench and brought on forward Matthew Fondy to make his home debut and work alongside Torres up top. The Rojiblancos found themselves with a golden opportunity to reclaim the lead in the 68th minute when De la Fuente sent a long ball over the top to Torres who was onside down the middle of the field. While Torres adjusted to bring the ball down, Ricketts came far off his line to meet the play and break up the threat.

Chivas continued to get into dangerous spots in and around the box to generate threats, as Mejia threaded a pass from the right wing into the box to a cutting Fondy in the 73rd minute. The forward then turned and tried to cross it into the short area, but Portland's defense was able to break up the run. The Goats brought on their final two subs beginning in the 77 minute and had the match's last look at tallying the game-winner, when Tristan Bowen found enough space to get off a shot from inside the box, but the attempt sailed high and the result remained locked at one.

Chivas USA now travel to the Lone Star State to battle Eastern Conference side the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, Sept. 21, at BBVA Compass Stadium. The match will mark the only meeting between the clubs this season beginning at 5:30 p.m. (PT) and will be televised in English on KDOC-TV and in Spanish on MundoFOX 22. Chivas USA Fall to Dynamo on the Road

Chivas USA fell 5-1 Saturday night to the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium. After the clubs exchanged goals from Houston's Giles Barnes and Chivas' Eric Avila, the Dynamo pulled away with four unanswered scores in the second half on a pair of brace's from Barnes and Boniek Garcia. Forward Will Bruin also recorded a goal on the night to help the Texas side secure points at home.

The Rojiblancos defense withstood early pressure from the home side as they managed to get into their offensive third to test goalkeeper Dan Kennedy. The Red-and-White captain denied Houston in the sixth minute on Bruin's first-time attempt toward the near post from inside the box on a cross from the right side.

Forward Erick Torres tried to give Chivas the lead in the 12th minute with a curling shot from outside the box, but Houston keeper Tally Hall was able to secure the shot. The Goats continued to try and get into range shortly after when midfielder Bryan de la Fuente sent a cross from the left wing that went through untouched and into Hall's hands.

Chivas had a promising look at taking the lead in the 33rd minute after Torres brought down a long ball over top as he crossed into the left side of the box, but Houston's defense was able to close in on the striker in time to deflect Torres' shot and cause the threat to travel wide right of the post.

The Dynamo broke the scoreless tie in the 39th minute when Brad Davis played a ball from the right side off a corner kick that found Barnes on top of the six-yard line for the header.

The Rojiblancos responded with the equalizer in the 50th minute when Avila created a turnover in the offensive half of the pitch and worked the ball toward the arc, where he laid a pass off to Carlos Alvarez on his left. The midfielder gathered the pass and fired a shot past Hall's right that crashed into the post, but Avila followed up the strike and headed the rebound into the back of the net to even the match at 1-1.

Houston would reclaim the lead four minutes later when Ricardo Clark threaded a pass from inside the midfield line to Barnes, who collected the ball and fired from the 18-yard line past Kennedy to record his second goal on the night. Bruin's goal in the 63rd minute doubled the Dynamo's lead when he received a pass from Warren Creavalle as he made his run behind the arc and placed it inside the left post to take a 3-1 advantage. Garcia would put the exclamation point on the night with his two late scores beginning in the 79th minute. Garcia received a pass from Bruin inside the box and was able to capitalize on his opportunity. Garcia would go on to convert on a penalty inside the right post in the 91st minute to cap off the night.

Chivas USA now return home to prepare to square off against in-state and Western Conference rival the San Jose Earthquakes in the series finale. Five stops on Chivas USA's search for a home of their own in LA
    [IMG]

LOS ANGELES – Chivas USA have long desired a home of their own, and with their lease agreement to play at the StubHub Center expiring following the 2014 season, they need to do something about it.

They've been looking around for a good five or six years now, surveying possibilities in and around Los Angeles, and if there isn't a hard deadline to make a decision of some sort, a soft deadline is soon approaching.

Club management would like to have a more clear idea of things before the end of the year, but options are limited and somewhat complicated. They range from a chance at a new stadium adjacent to the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum all the way to the eastern suburb of Pomona, where there’s land potentially for the taking, but no stadium in site.

Chivas USA part ways with 10 players,
including starters Mario de Luna and Edgar Mejia

Chivas USA will be rebuilding once again this offseason.

The club, which finished in last place in the Western Conference, on Wednesday announced that it has parted ways with 10 players, including three players who were regular starters at different points of the 2013 season.

The Goats are sending Mario de Luna, Jaime Frias, Edgar Mejia and Julio Morales back to sister club Chivas Guadalajara in Mexico, and they have also declined the contract options for six other players: Patrick McLain, Steve Purdy, Daniel Atunez, Marvin Iraheta, Josue Soto and Jose Manuel Rivera.

Chivas USA also have a decision to make regarding their head coaching position which was occupied by Jose Luis "Guero" Real in 2013. Last week the club's director of soccer, Francisco Palencia, indicated that the final word could come down in the coming weeks.

    Another new direction:
Chivas USA part ways with sporting president Dennis te Kloese

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – CD Guadalajara and Chivas USA sporting president Dennis te Kloese left the institution on Monday after less than a year on the job.

“Dennis te Kloese has left his post,” read a brief press statement from the Guadalajara club on Monday. “Club Deportivo Guadalajara SA de CV thanks Dennis te Kloese for his effort and professionalism in this period of a year as Chivas sporting president.”

Te Kloese was hired on Christmas Eve 2012, weeks after Johan Cruyff was sacked as an advisor to the institution.

The Dutchman vowed to strengthen links between the Guadalajara and Los Angeles clubs in order to improve the MLS franchise, but both teams have suffered a disappointing 12 months, with Chivas USA finishing last in the Western Conference and Guadalajara winning just five Liga MX games all year.

Chivas USA urge patience with Bofo Bautista's MLS adaptation: "This league is different, it takes time"

CARSON, Calif. – Those anticipating an immediate splash from MLS newcomer Adolfo “Bofo” Bautista might have to temper their expectations as Chivas USA appear to be easing their big offseason acquisition into the fold.

Bautista played only the second half of the Goats’ 2-0 scrimmage win over the USL PDL's Orange County Blues on Monday – mostly alongside backups – and afterward head coach Wilmer Cabrera explained his plan to slowly incorporate his 34-year-old forward into the mix.

“It’s a tough change for him because this is more physical,” Cabrera told MLSsoccer.com. “There’s more running, but his attitude and mentality are very positive. We want to take care of him. He’s working very well and I think it’s a good combination. We’re happy about that.”
