Well, this blogger guy says moving to SF (or anywhere) is probably not going to happen, but my take is that it's still too early in the buying stages really. There are still two or three weeks before potential buyers can even bid. The lease for the arena was for 20 years, signed in 1996. The naming rights were set to end at the same time, in 2016. There appears to be some escape clause, but probably not without some major financial buy-out.

One of the expected negatives if Ellison does buy the team, even without moving, is that ticket prices will raise. Moving to SF (or anywhere really) would make a lot of sense, but it would jack up prices through the roof - the cost of real estate and a new structure could easily top $400 million.

Cohan's definitely been cutting salary to sell the team, since it makes the team more attractive. But no matter how good or bad Riley's decisions have been, with the chance for a new start, getting in someone experienced with more basketball ties just seems like a good idea. Quite honestly, many people can do this job, but few people have the connections and experience because there are so few positions in the league - why not get the edge in whatever way you can?

It doesn't really make much of a difference to me if they move to SF or not, commute is the same for me, but I hope they do plan on moving just becuase it will take at least 7 or 8 years to get an arena built and will give the new owners that much more incentive to make GS a winning team. I'm sure they won't want to put a crappy product in their new building, even if that crappy product is a cash cow.
