    Rapids rave about Harbottle:
"People are gonna like this kid"

COMMERCE CITY, Colo.- The Rapids’ newest South American acquisition is a little awkwardly shy and is maybe a bit self conscious about his inability to speak the local tongue in his new home.

But once he begins to speak, Kevin Harbottle, signed from Chilean powerhouse Catolica only last month, opens up freely. And Rapids head coach Oscar Pareja is hoping his signing will help open up the field by providing width along the left wing this season.

The Rapids had been tracking the diminutive winger, whom they signed in January, for much of the offseason. And although he only stands at just 5-foot-5, Harbottle brings the skill and pace the Rapids are looking for in their midfield.

Rapids Top RSL 1-0 in Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup Match

The Colorado Rapids earned their first victory of the season in a Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup rivalry match against Real Salt Lake on Saturday night, winning 1-0 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Forward Atiba Harris scored his first Rapids goal in just the 5th minute of the match, while Colorado goalkeeper Clint Irwin continued his stellar play by saving an Alvaro Saborio penalty kick just four minutes later.

With the win, the Rapids take a lead in the Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup season series, having earned a draw in Salt Lake on March 16 and a home victory on Saturday. The decisive third match takes place on August 3 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Colorado next faces Chivas USA on the road on Saturday, April 13, before returning to Commerce City to take on the Seattle Sounders on April 20 at 4:00 p.m.

Brown Scores Second of Season as Rapids Win 1-0 at Chivas

The Colorado Rapids earned their second straight 1-0 victory on Saturday night, taking a road victory over Chivas USA. In similar fashion to last week's win against Real Salt Lake, the Rapids scored an early goal, survived a penalty kick, and held the lead.

Deshorn Brown scored the game's only goal in the 7th minute, finishing from the penalty spot after being taken down in the box. Later in the first half, the referee awarded a penalty against Colorado, but the shot hit the crossbar and bounced clear. Rapids first-year goalkeeper Clint Irwin has now faced four penalty kicks in his first four MLS starts. Rapids player Anthony Wallace also made his first appearance for the club since August of 2011 following injuries over the last two seasons.

Rapids Fall 1-0 to Seattle Sounders

The Colorado Rapids dropped a 1-0 result to Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday afternoon at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, with Obafemi Martins scoring the game's only goal off a rebound in the 27th minute. The Rapids had more shots, crosses, and possession, but hit the woodwork several times and could not find an equalizer.

The Rapids were without several players due to injury, with Deshorn Brown suffering a strained quad in practice on Friday, Edson Buddle exiting due to knee pain during the pregame warm-ups, and Marvell Wynne leaving in the 55th minute with a quad strain. Those players join a long list of Colorado players already out, including Diego CalderÃ"n, Jaime CastrillÃ"n, Kevin Harbottle, Pablo Mastroeni, Matt Pickens, and MartÃ-n Rivero. Rookie midfielder Dillon Powers played the full 90 minutes despite suffering a laceration above his right eye in practice on Friday, which required 40 stitches to close.

Colorado returns to action next Sunday, visiting the Houston Dynamo at 3:00 p.m. MT, with Rapids play-by-play man Richard Fleming and former U.S. National Team star Marcelo Balboa calling the game on Altitude. The Rapids next play at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on May 4, taking on Toronto FC. For more information on the team, or to purchase tickets, visit www.ColoradoRapids.com or call 303-825-GOAL.

Buddle Scores, Irwin Keeps Clean Sheet as Rapids Top Toronto

Edson Buddle scored his first goal in a Rapids uniform and Clint Irwin earned his third shutout of 2013 as Colorado topped Toronto FC 1-0 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday night.

After controlling the majority of possession and having several opportunities, it wasn't until the 86th minute that the Rapids found the back of the net. Toronto FC defender Logan Emory slipped while trying to clear a cross inside his own six yard box, allowing Buddle to hammer home the game-winner from close range for his first of the season. Clint Irwin made four saves as he continued the stellar start to his MLS career.

The Rapids take to the road for their next two matches, facing the Columbus Crew on May 11 and the San Jose Earthquakes on May 18 with both games broadcast live on Altitude by Rapids play-by-play man Richard Fleming and former U.S. National Team star Marcelo Balboa. The Rapids return home on May 25 to face Chivas USA at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. For more information on the team, or to purchase tickets, visit www.ColoradoRapids.com or call 303-825-GOAL.

Buddle, Powers and Defense Send Rapids Past Crew, 2-0

The Colorado Rapids earned a second straight victory on Saturday, taking a 2-0 road win against the Columbus Crew. Edson Buddle and Dillon Powers scored for the visitors, while the defense held firm for a fourth shutout this season.

Buddle opened the scoring early, when Danny Mwanga found Atiba Harris in the box, who knocked the ball down to the Rapids forward, who finished from close range. The second goal game with just over 20 minutes left in the match, when a MartÃ-n Rivero free kick was knocked clear to Powers, whose hard, low shot took a deflection and went in. Columbus had more shots on the night, but goalkeeper Clint Irwin and the Rapids defense gave up few great opportunities in holding the Crew scoreless.

The Rapids will take to the road again for their next match, visiting the San Jose Earthquakes on May 18, with live coverage on Altitude from Rapids play-by-play man Richard Fleming and former U.S. National Team star Marcelo Balboa starting at 8:00 p.m. MT. The Rapids return home on May 25 to face Chivas USA at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. For more information on the team, or to purchase tickets, visit www.ColoradoRapids.com or call 303-825-GOAL.

Rapids Take 1-1 Draw in San Jose with Sturgis on Target

The Colorado Rapids got a first half goal from midfielder Nathan Sturgis en route to a 1-1 draw on the road at the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night. Marvin Chavez scored for the hosts, but Colorado nearly took the win with Sturgis hitting the crossbar with a late header, and San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch making several stops on Rapids forward Deshorn Brown.

Colorado has now earned at least one point in seven of the last eight games, holding a 4-1-3 record (W-L-T) over the stretch, including going 2-0-2 on the road. In tonight's match, the Rapids had 20 attempts on goal to San Jose's 13, and had eight corner kicks to the Earthquakes' one, with both Sturgis' goal and his header off the post coming from corner kicks by MartÃ-n Rivero. The Rapids played the last few minutes of the match down a man after Shane O'Neill received a red card, with defender Brenton Griffiths coming on late for his MLS debut.

The Rapids return home on Saturday, May 25 to face Chivas USA at 7:00 p.m. MT at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. For more information on the team, or to purchase tickets, visit www.ColoradoRapids.com or call 303-825-GOAL.

Rapids Earn Shutout Win over Chivas USA in Front of Sold out Crowd

The Colorado Rapids extended their unbeaten streak to five games with a 2-0 victory over Chivas USA in front of a sold-out crowd at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday night. Atiba Harris scored early, Nathan Sturgis added another late in the game, and the defense held firm as Clint Irwin earned his fifth shutout of the year. The Rapids are now 5-1-3 (W-L-T) in their last eight MLS games.

Sturgis has now scored in two consecutive games for Colorado, having scored just one goal in his first 84 MLS matches. In the 78th minute of the match, the midfielder finished from close range off a Deshorn Brown feed, which followed great passing from Marvell Wynne, Edson Buddle, and Brian Mullan. Harris had opened the scoring in the 11th minute with his second goal of the season, scoring off a cross from Chris Klute.

The Rapids travel to Florida for a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match on Tuesday at Orlando City SC before returning home next Saturday, June 1 to face FC Dallas at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Tickets are available by visiting www.ColoradoRapids.com or calling 303-825-GOAL.

Rapids Fall 2-1 to San Jose Earthquakes at Dick's Sporting Goods

Down a man for 72 minutes, the Rapids fell 2-1 to the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, despite an 18-4 advantage in shots for Colorado. Rapids midfielder Nathan Sturgis scored his third goal of the season in the 67th minute, and Jaime CastrillÃ"n, making his 2013 debut after offseason knee surgery, almost scored an equalizer late in the match on a diving header.

The Rapids were forced to play down a man after Atiba Harris received a red card in the 18th minute for a hard tackle, and San Jose scored twice before Sturgis pulled one back. The loss snapped the Rapids' six-game unbeaten streak, and puts Colorado at 5-5-5 (W-L-T) on the season. Colorado now has three straight road matches, facing the Chicago Fire on Wednesday live on Altitude, the Portland Timbers on Saturday on NBC Sports, and then Montreal Impact on June 29 on Altitude. The Rapids return home on July 4 and 7 for a pair of matches, both with postgame fireworks. Tickets are available by visiting www.ColoradoRapids.com or calling 303-825-GOAL.

Rookie of the Year candidate Deshorn Brown scored his fourth goal of the year for the Rapids, but Colorado fell 2-1 at the Chicago Fire on Wednesday night at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill. Brown opened the scoring after stealing the ball from a Fire defender and finishing the breakaway, but a Mike Magee penalty and Austin Berry header gave the hosts the win.

Rapids Score in Final Seconds to Top Impact 4-3 in Montreal

The Colorado Rapids came from behind twice and scored in the dying seconds to beat the Montreal Impact in a wild, 4-3 match at Stade Saputo in Montreal on Saturday night. Tony Cascio's deflected shot in the 96th minute capped the comeback for Colorado and handed Montreal its first home loss of the season.

The Rapids had taken an early lead through an Atiba Harris header, but Montreal scored twice just before halftime for a 2-1 advantage. Dillon Powers scored in the 59th minute to tie it at two, and after Montreal scored in the 72nd minute it was just five minutes before Deshorn Brown equalized again for Colorado. It was the first time two rookie teammates (Powers and Brown) scored in an MLS match since 2009.

The match was decided in the final seconds after Chris Klute won the ball 35 yards from the Rapids goal and sprinted the length of the field on a two-on-one counterattack. His cross was blocked, but the ball fell to Cascio, whose shot from the top of the box took a deflection and found the net. The 96th minute goal was the latest the Rapids have ever scored a game-winner, with the previous record being a 92nd minute strike from Mark Chung on July 4, 2003.

Now done with a three-game road swing, the Rapids return to Dick's Sporting Goods Park for Freedom Weekend matches at 7:30 p.m. on both July 4 and July 7, with special events and fireworks displays after the games. Rapids Celebrate 4thFest with 2-0 Win over Red Bulls

The Colorado Rapids celebrated the annual 4thFest presented by Westerra Credit Union with a 2-0 win over the New York Red Bulls in front of a sold out crowd of 18,359 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Midfielder Nathan Sturgis and rookie Deshorn Brown each scored in the second half, and the Rapids defense got back on track with the club's sixth shutout of the season.

After a scoreless first half, Sturgis scored from close range off a corner kick after attempts from Edson Buddle and Drew Moor were blocked. It was the central midfielder's fourth goal of the year after scoring just one in his first seven MLS seasons. The Rapids padded their lead in the 68th minute when Deshorn Brown found the end of a Chris Klute pass at the back post for the rookie's fifth of the season. Shane O'Neill put in a Man of the Match performance at right back, his first time in the position, with Klute continuing his strong play at left defense. Clint Irwin made one save to keep the clean sheet.

The Rapids take on D.C. United this Sunday at 7:30 p.m. on Military Appreciation Night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, where the Rapids and Coca-Cola will honor members of the armed forces and present a donation to the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the USO. Before the game, the Rapids and Entravision will host Xportiva, a community event featuring Denver's major sports teams, followed by a second fireworks show of the week after the match. Rapids Dominate But Settle for 0-0 Draw with D.C. United

The Colorado Rapids had 23 shots to D.C. United's six on Sunday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, but could not find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw. Rapids forward Deshorn Brown, Colorado's Man of the Match, had eight shots, but D.C. goalkeeper Joe Willis - a former star at the University of Denver - made several stunning saves to keep Colorado off the board.

The Rapids defense kept a clean sheet for the second straight match, with goalkeeper Clint Irwin making a pair of saves to keep his seventh shutout of the season. Colorado now takes to the road for a friendly match against Mexico's Santos Laguna in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Friday, July 12, and has its next league game on Wednesday, July 17 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Hendry Thomas and Dillon Powers score; team extends undefeated streak to six straight

COMMERCE CITY, Colo.- Pablo Mastroeni’s return to Colorado didn’t exactly go the way he was hoping.

In Mastroeni’s first game back in Colorado since his June trade to the LA Galaxy, two goals before and after the halftime break led the Rapids to a 2-0 win over the Galaxy at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Saturday evening, extending Colorado’s unbeaten run to six games.

Rookie of the Year candidate Dillon Powers delivered the corner kick on Hendry Thomas’ 41st minute header that opened the scoring, and then Powers himself scored less than two minutes after the break after a sharp feed from Edson Buddle.

    Sanchez Arrives in Denver
    [IMG]
Veteran has played for Toluca and Club America in Mexico, Bundesliga's Schalke and with Uruguay

Uruguayan forward Vicente Sánchez arrived in Denver on Wednesday, and is meeting with Colorado Rapids officials and medical staff as the team looks to finalize details of a contract for the veteran striker. Sánchez, who made his biggest impact in the Mexican First Division with Toluca and Club América, has most recently been plying his trade for Uruguayan team Nacional.

“He’s a player that I know from before,” said Rapids Head Coach Oscar Pareja. “I was tracking him last year for us, but the numbers didn’t work out. He’s a player who has been at a high level for a long time, and was active in a top league in South America in the last tournament. He’s a very professional player, a very technical player, and he has a lot of experience. I think he would adjust very well to the league.”

Rapids Take Back the Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup

The Colorado Rapids came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw with Real Salt Lake and win the Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup on Saturday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The Cup, awarded to the winner of the season series between the two clubs, returns to Colorado for the first time since 2006.

Jaime Castrill scored his first goal of the season in the 70th minute to earn the draw, the midfielder's first goal since returning from knee surgery that kept him out of the first half of the season. Earlier in the match, Deshorn Brown scored his sixth goal of the season for the Rapids, extending his both his team lead and the lead among all MLS rookies in the category.

The Rapids had to overcome a pair of deficits, as well as stormy weather which caused a lengthy delay. RSL went ahead after just two minutes before Brown's equalizer, and as Salt Lake forward Alvaro Sabor prepared to take a penalty kick in the 21st minute, lightning in the area caused a delay of 62 minutes. Sabor scored when play resumed, and RSL held their lead for 59 minutes before Castrill's goal.

Colorado captured the Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup after finishing the season series with a record of 1-0-2 against RSL, winning it for the third time (2005, 2006, 2013). The Cup, which was founded by supporters from both teams, was held by Salt Lake for six seasons despite the Rapids holding an all-time record of 11-9-8 against its rivals.

The Rapids travel to Los Angeles this week to take on Chivas USA on Sunday, August 11 at 9 p.m. MT, with a live broadcast on Altitude featuring play-by-play from Richard Fleming and color commentary from Marcelo Balboa. Coverage starts with the pregame show at 8:30 p.m. The Rapids return to Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday, August 17 at 7:30 p.m. MT to take on Vancouver Whitecaps FC; for more information, visit www.ColoradoRapids.com or call 303-825-GOAL.
