After months of endless preparation, weeks of meetings that last entire afternoons and three days of strategy, we can say the following about the Indianapolis Colts:

They are tougher. And they are more explosive.

Those were two of this team’s stated objectives heading into the 2018 NFL Draft. And, at least for now, it appears they accomplished their goals. We’ll have more to base that analysis on later, once the team’s 11 draft picks actually have a chance to perform.

But, for the time being, just know this: A team whose general manager admits it got bullied in the trenches last season doubled down on the trenches the first two nights of this draft. Then, on Saturday, the Colts used Rounds 4 through 7 to add some offensive pizzazz, with two running backs and two wide receivers who all have immediate opportunities to contribute.

Guys like Quenton Nelson, Darius Leonard, Braden Smith, Kemoko Turay and Tyquan Lewis – all picked within the first two rounds – make the Colts tougher.

And guys like Nyheim Hines, Daurice Fountain, Jordan Wilkins and Deon Cain make them faster.
