Terrell throws 3 TD passes in No. 20 Western Michigan's win

The 23,721 fans who came to watch the Western Michigan play its first home game as a nationally ranked team in program history likely didn't expect to be treated to a close game.

Broncos coach P.J. Fleck didn't mind the challenge.

Zach Terrell threw for a career-high 398 yards and three touchdowns and No. 20 Western Michigan had 569 yards of total offense in a 45-31 victory over Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

Davis' big night sends No. 17 Broncos past Ball State, 52-20

Western Michigan receiver Corey Davis used a nationally televised game as his own personal proving ground Tuesday night.

He got open all game. He made spectacular plays when given the chance. And, of course, he kept the 17th-ranked Broncos unbeaten.

By the time the show-stopping senior finally left the 52-20 victory over Ball State, he had caught 12 passes for a Mid-American Conference-record 272 yards, tied the conference mark for career touchdown receptions (47) and celebrated a school-record 11th consecutive victory.

Marshall holds off Colorado State 31-28 in New Mexico Bowl

Leading up to the New Mexico Bowl, Marshall wide receiver Tyre Brady kept hearing about Colorado State's explosive offense. Doubters were overlooking the Thundering Herd's own weapons, he thought.

So when Brady's chance came in the second quarter, the junior separated himself from Rams coverages and sprinted to a 76-yard touchdown reception for the first of three big scoring plays that allowed Thundering Herd hold off the Rams 31-28 on Saturday in the New Mexico Bowl.

FIU's Anthony Jones, Mershawn Miller shot in drive-by

Two FIU football players were victims of a drive-by shooting in South Florida on Thursday, according to Opa-Locka Police Chief James Dobson.

Dobson tweeted that starting running back Anthony Jones and offensive lineman Mershawn Miller were shot in Opa-Locka while visiting friends and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Police are still looking for the shooter.

The Miami Herald reports that Jones was shot in the face and back and Miller was shot in the arm.

"When you hear the news that we received today your heart drops," FIU coach Butch Davis said. "We've been receiving encouraging reports on their conditions and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Anthony Jones and Mershawn Miller during this time."

North Texas stuns Arkansas in 44-17 rout

Keegan Brewer knew all-too well there was a good chance his planned bit of punt-return trickery could backfire and leave him completely exposed to a slew of onrushing Southeastern Conference defenders.

The North Texas sophomore kept his cool, though -- long enough to have a brief conversation with an Arkansas player on his way to the dramatic 90-yard return for a touchdown.

Anthony Jones rushes for 3 scores, FIU beats Toledo 35-32

FIU fumbled away the opening kickoff, gave up a touchdown 23 seconds into the game and found itself trailing by double digits by the end of the first quarter.

    They needed a comeback.

And Anthony Jones might know more about comebacks than anyone on the FIU roster.

Jones -- one of two FIU players who were victims of a drive-by shooting in September -- rushed for three touchdowns, including the clincher with 41 seconds remaining as the Panthers topped Toledo 35-32 on Friday in the Bahamas Bowl. Jones tied a school record with the three scores, and FIU (9-4) set a school record with its ninth win of the season.
