In a strange twist, the last part is not correct. We are legally allowed to buy drugs from the guy at the corner now, so that we don't have to step into the pot shop. Curbside delivery, they called it. I call it back to the good old days.

The guy on the corner is still not social distancing and most areas don't count recreational drugs as essential, sadly. Maybe Portland does. You need some drugs to handle that place, I guess.

Where can I get one? I need it now.
A couple days ago my wife got in line at Costco before they opened. When she got to the toilet paper there was one package left. Someone tried to cut in front of her to grab that last roll. I think someone was surprised at how determined a little old Korean lady can be. As you, of all people, should know, it's a dog eat dog world.

^^^Brought this scenario up earlier...I would not be surprised that if things get bad enough in the US, that because of staff/equipment shortages, hospitals will begin sending older folks home and tell them "just hope for the best".

I read a joke somewhere (and I can not give proper credit) that if we had a diarrhea outbreak - there would be hoarding of nasal spray.

A Florida legislator saw in conspiracy site OAN, Trump favorite, the absolute nonsense that blasting blow dryer up your nose kills COVID-19. So he's telling people to do that. It can injure your nasal passages and is medically useless. Please get health information from doctors, not conspiracy blogs and dumb politicians.

Six days before Rand Paul tested positive, his father Ron Paul posted a blog saying Corona virus is a hoax. Asshole doesn't fall far from the tree.

I'm assuming you fully intended to put Korean lady and eating dogs in the same paragraph...?

You've got more good news for me. I use three different kinds of nasal spray. Lucky for me it gets shipped to me by UPS and they deliver it to my front door. A small fraction of my medications come by U.S. mail and I've got a locking mailbox.
Our regular mailman is very dependable but our substitute mailman sucks, delivering to the wrong address and never rings the door bell when I get one of two types of insulin in an insulated box because it's temperature sensitive. We are missing an $800 Costco check which we've never seen yet someone cashed it. Did it get sent to the wrong address? We're fighting with Costco over this right now.

ok...people can correct me if I'm assuming things that aren't accurate or wouldn't work:

speaking of the stimulus/relief negotiations, wouldn't one of the simplest acts be to increase the amount and duration of unemployment insurance payments immediately? IIRC the payments are currently at somewhere between 40-50% of salary. Just bump that up to 80-100% of salary. make all claims immediately eligible and extend the duration from 26 weeks ? to at least a year, or as longs as is necessary. Don't the feds underwrite all unemployment insurance claims the states process?

seems like both sides could agree to that. Just do that one thing and do it now. Then follow it up with a major package supporting small businesses. Why the fuck do both sides insist on making one major bill with a bazillion provisions in it? Why not do single issue bills instead of having compromise wars while the economy is circling the drain?

    is that too naive?

The bad habit was started during the Korean war and lasted for a few years after that war. My wife can attest to growing up while eating sometimes once every four days. People were starving then. Now, you can't find dog meat in Korea or so I'm told. They have all the wealth that we have. We never had a real shortage of food in the United States so we were fortunate not to have to sink to doing it.
By the way, my wife has never eaten dog even when she had meager meals sometimes once every four days. She wouldn't even eat in a home or restaurant that served it.
This is a somewhat sensitive subject to all the Koreans that I've talked to about this subject but it needs to be brought out into the open before it can be put to rest.

    Yes, a little naive.
There are businesses that will go down the drain without assistance such as restaurants, gyms, hair salons and barber shops and a host of others.
Then there's the issue of getting money into the economy to keep it humming so that people can have food, household supplies, plumbers, electricians, home repair people and so on. Also, people who are shut in need help with medications, food delivery and so on. It's just not all that simple.

I'm not talking about that being the only thing that gets done...the only bill that gets passed

I'm saying why not do the easy things first, and that expanding unemployment insurance compensation is an easy thing. Instead of holding the easy things hostage to the crap either side wants that will take drawn out compromise.

    * Both sides have said they want to send immediate aid to people who have lost jobs...then fucking do it

    * Both sides have said they want to send immediate aid to small businesses that have been damaged or shut down...then fucking do it

    * both sides have said they want to send immediate aid to hospitals and medical staff...then do it

get the things done both sides claim to want without attaching things that are bullshit to one side or the other. Pick the low hanging fruit first because people need all that fruit right now

I was saying yesterday they should make these two bills...
The first and most important one should be helping immediate needs. Individuals and families who need help, small businesses that need help, and Health services/workers. The second can be the one they do their stupid political agenda's and all that crap. They can figure out if or what they want to do for corporations and all that. It's ridiculous IMO that our politicians are so inept that they're trying to push their political agenda's, if they want to give money to those who need it immediately then they can, by splitting up the bills. Instead, they're trying to do one big bill that they slide all their stuff into. You have one side sliding crap into it, they look bad. You have another side saying, "oh no this is a bad bill", (without really showing up with their own bill), they look bad. Kind of think our government deserves to fall apart. We can go from the United States to the Divided States, states can be their own countries.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
As a Californian, I'd be fine with this plan. The United States of America was a fine experiment, but a failed one. We should all go our separate ways.
