agree, and the Gov has been questioned as to why not using what she has available. I guess she wants to save for second wave?

My main concern is, are our numbers low because we have done a good job of social distancing and shutting down many parts of the state or are they low because of very limited testing and we are just around the corner of a major outbreak? I hope it's the first.

I'm sure we'd have more cases with more tests, but it's at leat a good sign that the # of positives from the tests that we've done is so low. Ideally, we'd all get tested. But, as is, it's kind of like polling, and making estimates from those numbers. Poll 25000 people, get the results, extrapolate for larger population, with some variance expected.

I've already told you politely multiple times ...but OK, I'll put it another way...your advice is unsolicited, so mind your own business and I'll mind mine.

The trouble is, we don't know who is being tested. If for example you test only people on ventilators in the ICU, you'll probably get a very high % of positives. If you test only hermits who live in caves in the mountains, you'll probably get a very low percentage. Because there is no visibility into who is getting tested and why, the rate of positives is pretty much meaningless.

    True.
Test pirates who have been raping an pillaging lately and you get a high rate.
Test pirates who are self-quarantining in their mom's basement...not so much.

As far as I can tell, the number of tests per million for people in Oregon (6018) is close to par with other states...and Oregon only has 1,239 cases.

Yeah, I understand that part, but my concern is everyday I hear reports of people having symptoms and being turned away from testing because they are prioritizing. At this stage of the game, if a person has the sniffles, they should be tested. We can't just use projections for this kind of situation. We need more accurate numbers.

Not sure but I think that's pretty much going on in most places...they're mostly testing people who are showing more severe symptoms and they're telling people that unless they are showing the more severe symptoms to stay at home, which I can understand.

I assume it has to do with not overwhelming the hospitals/staff/testing kits, etc...just a guess.

Needless to say, this country was not prepared for this, if it had been, the numbers would be much lower.

In the country in total, 2.2 mil people have been tested, and 420k have been positive. Bigger sample size, but very clear bias towards the better on the west coast. Tells me they're doing something right.

It's a doctors call based on having enough symptoms. So i'm assuming many people that are tested have gone through the hoops as directed.
They are also deeming a death Covid19 even if they passed by other reasons and they tested positive. I heard a doctor talking about that.

My body has absorbed so much soap and disinfectant lately that when I pee it cleans the toilet.
My daughter said "home schooling is going well until one kid called in a bomb scare".

USA now has the same number of deaths per 1,000,000 people as Iran...yup, fucking IRAN.

Plus you could test negative and still catch it. I think our governor feels that testing and stats are important but not that much as compared to actual case admissions and deaths.
She wants to keep the doctors and hospitals manageable.

At this point, I'm not sure if we can really trust any of Trump's task force. Especially Deborah Birx.
