Flu vaccines are only about 40-60% effective. Covid also spreads much easier and faster and can cause more residual serious illnesses after the fact...covid infected also stay contagious longer.

 

Yes, there are only four strains of flu virus, but there are multiple mutations to each of them, even within a single flu season, that can limit a vaccine’s effectiveness. Unlike the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, which has a stable spike structure that scientists have targeted with the new vaccines, flu viruses can mutate in ways that yield vaccines ineffective or marginally effective. Add to that the fact that only about 45% of the adult US population gets vaccinated each year, and it’s pretty easy to see why there are still outbreaks each year. The good news is that there are new types of universal flu vaccines in development that are expected to be effective against all types of flu and perhaps will only require a single lifetime vaccination.

The short answer is. The Taiwan govt has done a much better job controlling covid than our govt, every step of the way.

They closed borders faster and tighter than us.

They distributed supplies faster, such as masks, and in much larger quantites.

They have a very good contact tracing system in place, do we?

They have a support system in place for those in quarantine. Do we?

They also pay everyone affected by a quarantine $30 per day, for two weeks, to help with extra expenses. This has also encouraged people with the virus to quarantine, and reduce the spread of the virus.
