It's my understanding that they release appointment times for the new week on Monday's but because of possible bad weather these upcoming days if someone reschedules their appointment time will be immediately made available.

If you see it start snowing in the next couple of days and can get to your mom and get her to the convention center you should start refreshing the appointment site often because there should be cancelations. It was a cancelation that Mrs SPD was able to get her mom an appointment today for this afternoon.

I did sign her up for an account. After that I checked for nearest vaccinations and it told me The Dalles. Wut?

Appointments were put up Monday morning and they went fast.

I don't think you're going to see anything until either next Monday morning or if the weather turns bad and people start canceling or rescheduling.

Its a joke that in the 21st century, with state of the art distribution software the private industry uses, the State of Oregon cannot keep pace with technology that equates to efficiency and superb service. Oh, that right they don't have any competition or performance marks to consider. I dealt with the State of Oregon for decades and they were always behind when it came to logistics and process.

Don't worry, I hear that they're getting the IT guys from the Unemployment Dept. to work on the scheduling app.

Don't overlook getting signed up with Albertsons/Safeway and Costco. According to The Oregonian, they're supposed to get doses this week and will have their own scheduling systems on their websites:

We're talking about the current program to vaccinate the general public, dog. The hospitals took care of administering doses to healthcare workers. The schools pretty much organized getting teachers vaccinated. The state has only had a year to plan for vaccinating the general public. It's understandable that nobody knows what the heck is going on.

I'm not trying to defend Brown or the job she's done with covid, I'm just saying that following the instructions that were told to the public, I was able to get my dad an appointment for Friday and Mrs Spd was able to get her mom vaccinated yesterday.

Appointment times were made available on Monday at 9am. This was public knowledge. Appointment times will be made available again next Monday. To be critical that there are no appointment times being made available on Wednesday when none were scheduled to be seems odd.

I'll keep saying this, with the weather forecast I'm guessing that there will be cancelations on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and maybe Sunday because 80 year olds and snow and ice don't really mix. If you know someone over 80 years old who wants a vaccine I would check the appointment system that I have used for my family successfully and have posted screen shots here to help everyone here.

Is this a perfect system? No.

But it's the system we have and it is navigable.

Having been to the convention center to get a vaccine I found it to be extremely well organized and professional. There are health professionals there from Kaiser, Legacy, Providence, and OHSU, plus the Oregon national guard.

It felt both safe medically and security wise.

Glad to hear that the system worked well for you and that things are well-run at the convention center. I'm taking mom-in-law down there this afternoon so I hope that remains the case. Given that, like the PDX and State Fairgrounds operations, it's being run by health organizations rather than the State, I'm not too surprised that it's well organized.

That said, I think that having a system that calls for taking folks in the 80+ age group to mass vaccination sites is nuts. Fortunately, my M-I-L is amazingly healthy for her age, but she is apprehensive about having to stand in line for any length of time as that's very hard for her to do. Brown and her administration have had a year to plan this. I get that they received a lot of bad info from the Trump Administration, but the planning for handling of vaccinations has always been the clear responsibility of the individual states. Having Brown and the head of the State Health Dept. both say that it would be "chaos" trying to get an appointment is pretty disheartening. My M-I-L was lucky and it sounds like your loved ones were as well. You and I are both pretty astute and were able to provide help with the system. That's not true for an awful lot of the elderly community. I'm really hoping that a proactive program of reaching out to those who don't get appointments in the next week or two will begin to take place.

Yes, I checked with Safeway this morning as well. You can't schedule appointments until tomorrow according the website. I will check again then.

Appointment times availability on Monday at 9am is public knowledge now. It was not before that time. I had my doctor's office tell me to call just after midnight Sunday night. Guess what? No appointment scheduling was available. I also tried Monday morning at 6am. Guess what? No appointment scheduling was available. Since I was busy with work I didn't try again until after noon and by then all of the appointments were taken.
