I admire and respect Jerry West for what he had done to the Lakers. Getting Kobe and Shaq along with a couple of good players. But when he came to Memphis he haven't done anything of significance except guiding them to the playoffs which always ends on an early exit without winning a game. He had acquired a lot of players through the draft, trade and free agency but none seems to make an impact take note that Gasol and Battier are already on the Grizzlies before West took over so you cannot credit him for those two. West hit a jackpot in Kobe Bryant other than him who else? Gooden?Giricek?Dahntay Jones?Troy Bell?R.Humphrey? Warrick?...... He even predicted long ago that Rodney White would be the best player in the 2001 Draft. You will wonder why the first 7 teams that drafted passed on Gay. Charlotte had an opportunity but MJ decided for Morrison eventhough he was outplayed and demolished by Gay in their one on one workout. MJ does'nt want to have the same mistake that he had when he drafted Kwame Brown based on sky's the limit potentials. If you want the Rockets to be a championship contender right away getting a player like Battier would be a logical choice. TMac(check it out on houston chronicle) had already approved of it and he was happy about the trade.
