Blazers aren't going to find LeBron, Embiid, or Giannis on the scrap heap. Melo & Enes worked out well. It's a decision on risk/benefit.
I think it’s kinda funny that some fans are worried about there being a logjam at the center position. Hey real quick, you aware of what team you root for? And since when is depth a bad thing anyway? I would love to worry about which healthy big is gonna get minutes. Don’t remember the last time that happened.
Deveney says Portland is/expected to be interested. https://heavy.com/sports/los-angeles-lakers/boogie-nba-lakers-cousins/ The bad news? Other teams—most notably Brooklyn—could pay Cousins significantly more than the minimum. The Heat, Celtics and Blazers, also expected to show interest in Cousins, could as well. This is a problem the Lakers will face with waived players in the coming months.
The amount a team can pay a player only matters IF the player clears waivers. I'd expect that if Cousins is cut that some team will claim his contract on waivers - meaning Boogie doesn't get a say in the matter (and he will not get a pay raise). The team claiming him would have to have the following: 1) open roster spot 2) a way to assume the full contract amount (Cousin is signed to a Min contract - so EVERY team not hard-capped can assume the contract). From this article last month - here are the teams we'd be competing against. https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2021/01/nearly-half-of-nbas-teams-have-open-roster-spots.html If multiple teams try and claim his contract - then the team with the worst record gets the player. http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q64 So as much as I'd LOVE to get Boggie on the roster - it's not realistic. ****EDIT**** Although, it does appear that Boston & Miami do not currenlty have an open roster spot. And Portland & Brooklyn have almost identical records - so maybe there is hope (depending upon when he is cut)! I guess Miami could just cut Meyers (since hes injured)....
Cousins seemed none to happy with Harden in Houston. I struggle to see him going to Brooklyn. But, who knows! Crazier things have always happened in this league
totally forgot about that lol, yeah why are they even listed as a favorite? Lakers can’t really afford him. I could see Miami, but if it came down to Miami or Portland, I would bet on him rolling with Dame. My biggest doubt is actually Olshey.
Which reminds me of another center. 6 days after the Knicks bought out Kanter, Olshey signed him near the 2019 Midseason Trade Deadline.
I’d like Randle, Quickley and a pick for CJ then I’d trade Nurkic for Cousins, our 2021 #1 pick returned and Tucker makes us very deep and we have a forward logjam to deal with after the season ends.
I don't think we're getting Quickley or a pick with Randle for CJ. I think Houston would do that deal but it kind of leaves us in a bad place at the 5 at the end of the season and if you could get both deals done, we'd have too many guys on the roster. So I know that all of that talent is good and we could just throw in Elleby but we'd have to do something like that. Again, I don't think there is any way we get more than Randle and Rivers for CJ and that's with no picks but maybe I'm undervaluing our guy or overvaluing Randle.
Cousins is a shell of the player he used to be. He was never a defensive juggernaut, but after a blown ACL and torn Achilles, he’s essentially a statue. He’s got zero lift and no lateral movement ability. A pairing of Kanter and Boogie would be the worst defensive rotation at the 5 spot in NBA history.
History??? We once had Meyers Leonard on this team. We also had a guy named Sean Marks as our starting center.
