Typical response. Probably your most stupid post to this day.

News flash: Calling out racism isn't racist.

When that's done, that's actually playing the race card card. It's the typical response for someone being called out on their idiotic statement. It's also the epitome of white privilege.

Do you see any black people or anybody else making this type of argument? No this is a white male argument in defense of what? Being able to group people together and say they are all the same? You don't have to call it racism for it to be akin to racism. Wrap your mind around that for a minute.

No it's racist because you called it out as being racist because I am white. If I were black you wouldn't have called it racist. If I had said it was about white people you wouldn't have called it racist. The fact I wasn't even referring to race and you twisted it into a racist issue is your racism.

I do agree with this. But I'm not sure that what Schilly said is related to that.

Btw, and I'm being earnest here, is French considered a Race? Same question with Germans, Italians, Norway, etc. Aren't they, on average, mostly the same race just speak a different language and have a man made Nation label?

Kind of like there is no "American Race". What makes up France now (or Germany, for a better example) is significantly different than what made up what was hundreds of years ago (Austria Hungary empire, Prussia, Germany...i.e., labels change).

Whereas someone who is Asian was pretty much Asian 500 years ago. Sure, they may be from China or Japan, but they're Asian.

Also, I think we conflate RacISM and RacIST a lot. One thinks a common (usually pejorative) stereotype applies to all, the other thinks one race is better than another. There IS a difference, although they are kissing cousins.

Yes. It did. Paul very purposely squeezed Dames injured fingers before the opening tip-off. Because he's a bitch.

So, it's racist to joke that Chris Paul and Nic Batum punch groins because of French influence, but it's not racist to claim that only white males compartmentalize nationality from ethnicity.

Got it. Appreciate the additional perspective.

Go ahead and continue to assume because you truly don't know what the fuck you're talking about. I call black people out ALL THE TIME for using the term "white boy". I use the argument that we protested for decades wearing signs that say "I am a MAN" why the hell would we emulate our oppressors by calling them white boy. I would have said the same thing to anyone. You don't know me. I abhor racism in every form and I call it out as well as make fun of it daily. Get your mind right.

So apparently making fun of Lakers fans would also be akin to racism as they they typically are fans of multiple ethnicities who have a common foundation in their sports fandom and there are stereotypes to their behaviors. In reality calling people from France a race is no different than calling Lakers fans a race, or people from Seattle a race. You see where I am going here dviss. You can go on and on attacking me calling my statements racist, calling the stupid or idiotic. That's fine thats your hate issue you need to deal with. But the bottom line is my comment had nothing at all to do with race.

Silly... I said that to make that point. That it is racist... Read the thread...

It's the same thing as Bomani Jones wearing a Caucasians t-shirt.

It is, but I don't think it's on par with others. Making a "national" reference (which are all man made anyways), isn't on par with basing it on ones skin hues. Neither is really a great thing, but one is worse than the others.

I had a teacher tell me in college once that I didn't act like a "typical yank" (he was Finish). He was basing it on how in his experience (growing up in Finland), that Americans he's interacted with, taught and befriended based on how we act/think or what we believe etc. He wasn't basing it on race, but how we act regardless of race.

now while I can see how that some might think it's the same, or similar enough to count, I struggle seeing them as the same. I also (obviously) struggle with how to explain the difference.

I don't remember that, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Yes I get your point about racism and you defend against it, guess what I do to. The point you are missing is that my statement had nothing to do with race.... at all. The sense I get is that you simply are a person who won't back down because they have to be right.

Then explain it in a way that makes sense. Explain how nationality is race. You are black, I am white, are we the same race? We are both from the United States, heck I assume we are both from Portland. Would you define that as being the same race? I would because to me all people are the same race, just with different color skins, hair, eyes etc...

Your teacher made a statement akin to racism. Typical yank is referring to white American males. If I proceeded forward with that vernacular I would be crucified in here. And I should be.

I did read the thread. I had assumed it was only this post that was just intended to make a point:

The one I was talking about was your "akin to racism" post:

If that one was also not serious and only intended only to make a point, then I retract my comment.

By the way, I thought Bomani's shirt was hilarious.

If you want to say what I said was derogatory towards people from France, then say that. I wouldn't be upset or offended because then you would be right in your argument.
