    Good for you!

Here's the problem. Using this metaphor, the bathroom is all the Blazers have. They have to extract every bit of copper, steel, cast iron and vintage fixtures they can. They have to repurpose studs into new pieces of blocking. They don't have the luxury of their "lucrative" work (color me impressed!) to go and purchase other assets. And I don't care if in Joe's mind, it wasn't worth the time or the effort, expending that time and effort is his job. He has no opportunity cost metric.

The Blazers don't have the considerable luxury you have, by being able to waste draft picks or get less talent in return for our limited assets. You may not be concerned with extracting every cent from every transaction, but in the NBA that's the primary way you build a winning franchise.

What would I do if I had the power to go back in time?

    I wouldn't win the lottery.

    I wouldn't bet on sports.

I wouldn't buy stock or property.

I would come on this forum five months ago and propose these two trades and laugh as everyone (and I mean everyone) on this forum calls me a know-nothing moron.

Yeah, but it would have felt better if we got Sofia Jamora, I mean Jaxson Hayes.

So you can't even come up with a single idea out of this (now worse) mess? You're just buying everything they feed you no matter what? What tools? Cap Space in a horrible free agent class when we're Portland? That'll go great.

Well, I disagree that's all they have.

They have Dame that they hope will go back to superstar status once he is healthy, they have Simons that they believe in and the trade gave him more on court time, they have Nas that they believe in (again, the Roco trade in theory opened some time there), they seem to believe they can resign Nurk which has a positive value (even if it is not as high as some here believe).

I believe that the Blazers have a depreciating asset (Dame's prime) and that moving quickly to rebuild around him with the other assets they have (Simons, Nas, Supposedly Nurk) before it is not worth doing it. That's what they might have lost if they tried to extract every penny from every less critical asset they have.

I still think that the analogy I made makes a lot of sense - but it's ok if we disagree on this.

There's no plan here. We have hardly any actual assets. The plan was clearly to cut costs. I feel like this idea that they're going to build around Dame is a total farce.

Correct. I am not a GM or analyst nor do I play one on TV - but I can see that for the first time in years there is actually a plan to get better where it matters (roster construction) - so as a fan, that makes me happy. Luckily my life is not wrapped in the Blazers to the point that if this plan fails - I would be depressed.

It is. It has to be. There's no way any of this makes sense. Dame is the marketing piece for a future sale. New ownership can decide whether or not we're better off keeping him. Winning and losing did not factor into these moves.

Yup. I half wonder if they tried to give Neil these marching orders and he refused, which led to the witch hunt.

Finished the whole thing. Thought it was fine, nothing ground breaking was revealed. A bit more refreshing than the high-tension Olshey pressers.

The only comment to make me raise my eyebrow was "multiple offseason" to describe the duration of the rebuild. If we don't look substantially better by the start of training camp 2022, that's a no-no from me. And we should be jettisoning Dame for as many assets as possible before sinking us with that 107 mil extension.

Also, the media sucks at asking the right questions.

I would think that multiple off-seasons to get to contender status is reasonable - to have one or two years with Dame still playing like a superstar. I also agree that if we do not look substantially better next year - it is probably time to go for a full rebuild.

statistically he's about average or a ways above. He has a career 14.6 PER when the league average is 15.0; but he's been closer to 16.0 the last 3 years. He has a career .100 winshare/48 which is right at the NBA average. He has a negative career BPM. He does have a career TS% of .587 when the league average is around.560; and he's been at or above .600 the last 4 seasons. He's an efficient scorer because he hovers around a 40% 3ptFG% and gets to the foul line at a high rate, and shoots a high percentage when he gets there. He's well above average as a scorer, but below average as an assist-making guard. He's a weak rebounder for his position(s). And he's a little below average as a defender IMO

overall I'd say he's above average player and an average starter, but that's certainly better than mediocre

I don't think the starters are worse than last years:

    We had: Lillard/McCollum/N. Powell/R. Covington/J. Nurkic
If we make no changes, the starters are: Lillard/Simons* (FA)/Little*/Hart/Nurkic* (FA)

One poster said that Hart played PF for NOP, if he can do that, then I think...

Simons/Little/Hart MIGHT be better than CJ/Powell/Covington

In impressive fashion, he makes me look sane and reasonable.

An impressive feat, if I say so myself.

I'm pretty sure just about all of us have been called that at one time or the other and we didn't need time travel to get there

but if I went back in time I'm for fucking damn sure going to win at least one lottery. In fact I'll go back to the beginning of 2015, win 67 million in the lottery(s), investor's choice, and buy 100,000 shares of bitcoin at 250/share, then sell them all last year at 60K/share. That's 4.5B after capitol gains tax. And I'll send each one of you dumb fucks 100K because I can.

That's what I'll do when I hop in the wayback machine, while you go back 5 months and post trade ideas here
