The Pistons had Elliott and they traded him to Houston for Horry but Elliott failed the physical.

One thing I got from this: Simons is definitely not untouchable. He had to be offered up in any trades for "difference makers".

    I thought it was fantastic.
    Transparent
No bulkshit (except for the GP2 thing but he can’t say anything and right now)
Said they are ready and willing to push in all their chips

what was wrong with that press conference?

I thought Joe cMe off very open and honest and fairly realistic. Breath of fresh air compared to the used car salesman snark.
For those saying he lied about Payton. Of course. They might have to take him back. Do you really think Joe is about to create super drama by telling the press he wouldn't be welcomed back? He said the right things to avoid a potential media frenzy down the road if he returns.
Now. We will see in the off season how well he swings the bat when he talks about all in, home run swings.

I just watched the Cronin press conference. Remarkably straightforward in his assessment. I understand the strategy he is attempting, but his execution (based on last year) has been troubling. I think he dug himself a hole that has been difficult from an asset-gathering perspective from which to emerge. However, he may value trade exceptions more than do I when it came to those deals. He may have targeted Grant when he made that horrendous Clipper trade.

I also get going to the backup plan if Plan A doesn't work. Of course, I would love to know who the players were that we couldn't make happen. And grabbing assets on the back end is huge for us, given what the deals for the "difference makers" seem to be.

We'll see what this summer looks like. If Grant leaves for nothing, we'll have to blow it up. If it's a sign and trade, then we would have to see what we would get for him. If it's youth/development, then we blow it up. If it's vet help, then that may change things.

It's also worth seeing Chauncey's perspective on Cam Reddish. Few remember that Billups was a very high draft pick that was considered a bust. He talked about how he wanted to be to Cam what Flip Saunders was to him. He said Coach Saunders told him "you have to change or this is going to be over for you", but then Saunders poured so much of himself into Billups. It seems to me if Cam can take what Chauncey says to heart, then we may have gotten a nice piece of the puzzle.

One other item to mention. Cronin indicated that when we did make a big trade, we were likely going to have to give up a ton to do it. In other words, when we trade for a player we think can really be a difference maker, many in here are not going to be happy with the price.

even if it was a typo, I kind of like the nuanced meaning of bulkshit....quantity over quality

And it will likely be the same people who have been saying "go all-in" for years.

I'm not one of those people who want to go all-in for the sake of going all-in. The move has to make sense.

Hard to say unless we know the exacts. Blazer management for years thought giving up CJ was too much. Until his value shrunk and shrunk

I think it was only one person in Blazer management. Once that person was fired, CJ was out the door
