Nope. Just makes them front runners. I'd be willing to bet that most people who are rooting for the Cubs right now haven't watched a baseball game in years. It's great that people are caught up in the story, but let's not pretend like most of the people rooting for Chicago are diehard Cubs fans.
I can't speak for everyone but it was clear that quite a few people had some Chicago ties and those, at least the ones keeping one eye on the screen, did to some degree follow baseball. Oi, calling Arizona, many Spanish speakers, trying to GOTV in my rudimentary Spanish while watching the World Series.
