We have a 2017 e-golf; my wife's commute car. It's got 83 miles range. We lease it because in 3 years (when the lease is up), the state of the art might be (should be) much better. Technically it can get over 100 miles on a charge, and most people say that's what they get. It looks like the GTI and some say handles better because the batteries give it a low center of gravity. My other car is a GTI with a Unitronics stage 1 tune. 310HP. Zoom zoom!
I still drive my old Miata that I have had for over 20 years. That thing looks like a barbie car - but it is probably the best built vehicle I ever had - you can not kill it. For 5 years it was my only car and my track car (lived 15 minutes from PIR and had no kids - the car has maybe 20K miles on the track) - it lives outside and looks like it - but it is in fantastic mechanical shape and still the most fun every-day driver I ever sampled (I bought many cars during these 20+ years with the intentions of replacing it as my daily driver - nothing works for me better than that old car). Around 2000 I thought I out-grew it, bought a Lotus 7 to race, but still raced the Miata when the rain was too hard for the 7. In 2008 sold the Lotus and got an old Alfa race car - which I still have - but the Miata is still my daily driver. At some point it will stop passing smog - until then - it just keeps on going.
That Grand National is sick FAMS! Used to drive those way back when I worked at a Buick dealership. Those things are fast.
Honest question to the electric/hybrid fans here. Why? My family recycles more than anybody we know and are very aware of the environment.....BUT....... I just can't drive one of those little wind up cars. Respect people that want to save on gas money, but I just try to save in other ways. I need my V8.
Been rocking this thing for the last 8 or 9 years. Surprised it has exploded on me yet, at 165k it could happen any moment I think. I really wish I would have reserved a Tesla Model 3 last year and started paying it off right away. They are supposed to be delivering them towards the end of the summer and they look pretty slick.
7 years later still driving my Audi. Paid for and I love it, can't get rid of it. Wife has a 4-Runner that we are handing down to The HCP Jr. this fall. I believe we are getting my wife a Toyota Highlander, heard good things about them. SHe wants one of those Volvo SUVs, but they are way to much. When you look this good driving your car, even when you get a ticket, how can you get rid of it?
Totally understand that. My boss' brother has one and took us out and let me drive. It was fast. Just felt weird. Plus, a bit out of my budget.
My wife doesn't have to pump gas in the 110 degree heat. It costs less for the electricity than the gas. The car is comfortable, has good A/C and radio, all sorts of tech (self parks even), and can haul a lot of stuff (as much as a hatchback, anyway). It has over 2x the range per charge than she needs to get to work and back with stops along the way to shop (if she chooses). The car doesn't have a lot of horsepower (something like 115) but it's deceiving. Electric motors have lots of torque at all speeds. You step on the "gas" and it keeps accelerating (up to a max of 85MPH, good enough for highway) without shifting. It's surprisingly quick.
I thought I would not care for the EV when my wife got it - but turns out I love it. Pros: No noise, Instant acceleration, no need to service it (no oil, belts etc..), never having to go to a gas station, cheaper for operate. Cons: Range, it is much better than expected as a fun car - but it can not touch a proper sports car (but than, most sedans / hatchbacks can't either). Around town - there is honestly nothing better. For fun - there are better options - but as a transportation appliance - nothing can touch it.
I love my Mazda CX-9. Has all the upgrades. Big enough for the family and dogs for whatever the day holds, but fits seven for when the crew rolls deep. Small turbo on the engine. And nondescript enough that when I'm passing folks on the highway while others try to keep up, I'm the one they don't pull over.
2007 gmc sierra 1500. Got the smaller motor so i get 13 miles to the gallon in this hog. It just sips gas from a tea cup with it's pinky up. K&N spectre oiless CAI and magnaflow exhaust give it a nice mean sound while adding a whopping 1mpg average.
My conscience won't let me drive an ev: https://www.google.com/amp/amp.nati...ic-cars-environmental-impact-worse-advertised
