What's our strength right now? I'd say our depth in the frontcourt. MyLe, Vonleh, Plums, and Davis are solid. I'm not worried at all about the 4 or 5 spot. Small forward is intriguing. Aminu, Harkless, and possibly Crabbe. I think there's a lot of potential at that position. Shooting guard seems pretty set for now. Hendo, CJ, and maybe Crabbe. That's not bad. I'm okay with that depth right now. I'd say our biggest weakness is backup pointguard. I don't like Frazier. I don't like Pressey. I think Montero is a huge question mark.
Frazier looked excellent against Sacramento. I think in summer league, he was trying to do too much. When he plays within himself, in the offense, he seems to be well-suited for a tenth-man role.
I agree we need a decent PG to back up Dame. I say we cut HCP, or trade him to the L*kers for a top 60 protected 2nd round pick. If even they want him.
Dame or CJ misses a game, gets in foul trouble, etc. If one of those two misses any stretch of games, the #3 really matters.
Not a Bulls fan anymore. They did manage to get guys like Aaron Brooks for vet minimum who could be major contributors. And they have a man crush on Hinrich, overpay him, and over play him. The guy had a PER of 6.8 last season, and started 22 games. He is awful, and has been since the 06-07 season.
That's not really the question though. Why go 4 deep at SF and only 2 deep at PG? It's more important to have depth at PG.
Gotta keep Montero! He is the next Magic Johnson!!!! Seriously though, I would cut Pressey and develop Montero with minutes as both PG and SG. #3 on the depth chart at each position.
Because despite what we think the Blazers see CJ as our Primary backup PG... on top of that we aren't 4 deep at SF, since Montero would be a SG, and depending on how you see Crabbe makes us 3 or 4 deep at the 2... or 3... or if Montero is a PG then we are 4 deep there too.
Who cares? We'd have 2 PGs and 6 2/3s. And it seems as though they know see CJ as a starting SG. In any case, I think Portland needs a 3rd pg.
