Well, the Blazers don't really have much to lose in keeping him as a project. He does have nice athletisism for his size.
If there's any realistic chance Montero developed to a competent NBA player in 3 years sure keep him. If it's a 1000-1 long shot then it's not worth the effort; better to cut the guy. I trust Neil and Stotts to make the right choice.
What does it hurt though? Give the kid a year in an NBA culture. See if he gleans anything off of it. If they don't see anything within that year, let him go. It's the 15th spot on a roster of young guys. If freakin Jack Haley can stick around and sit on NBA benches for 10ish years, I think we can hold onto Montero for one year. (also, I had no idea that Jack Haley had died this year...... wow)
There will be other teams players cut, D league prospects, and there are organizational resources needed for every rostered player. Luis had to prove he's worthy of those opportunity costs. The costs may be very minor but if there's no realistic chance of Luis developing the team should go in a different direction. Saying other teams have historically made dumb roster moves is no reason for the Blazers to do so.
I can only see it having a chance to happen if PJ3 is cut. POR said otherwise they want to see where Montero is in a year. They are investing in him.
When I look at those deals, I think Alexander is safe. If they were to cut someone it's going to be Montero or Frazier. If they want to sign a Pg it could be Frazier, if it's any other position I think Montero gets the cut.
Yeah; still very possible he gets cut if we see a better prospect or acquire a player using cap space in a trade. He's safe until next week though. If you're a Montero fan its a good sign the team at least sees the potential for something with him even if its a fraction of a percent chance he becomes a useful NBA player.
A 6'6" wing with some PG skills, how about a cross between Magic Johnson, Scottie Pippen and Jason Kidd. Either that or Qyntel Woods.
Eliot Williams was waived by the Hornets today. Not that I think we cut Luis Montero but I guess there is always that chance until January.
the Eliot Williams boat set adrift a while ago, hit a rock outcropping and sank. And then when it hit the floor of the ocean, exploded on impact. Were you saying the team should give Eliot a tryout?
Why are we wanting to add guys we known have failed in favor of a guy who hasn't had a chance to fail?
You're right. Moe harkless has failed. Al farouq aminu has failed. Allen crabbe has failed. Lets let Luis Montero play in front of those guys because he hasn't had the chance yet to fail
