http://dabullz.com/2008/11/24/dabullzcom-power-rankings-11-24-08/ Nuggets are on the verge of passing over the Pistons!

http://dabullz.com/2008/11/25/dabullzcom-power-rankings-11-25-08/ Detroit has fallen behind an entire host of Western teams. San Antonio is in a good position for their injuries. You can tell they will be in the championship mix this year down the stretch once they get Manu and Tony back. Bulls are ahead of Skiles again, but what will it take for them to get ahead of those Knicks!
It seems like the Bulls loss to Ptd (who was ranked 18th) by over 40 points would drop the Bulls more than 2 slots.
By the time the Blazers played the Bulls, the Bulls were in their 12th game. There are expected to be outliers both in favor and against for teams, especially teams that will probably finish somewhere around the middle like the Bulls. If they were having this game somewhere around the 5th game of the season, maybe it'll drop them. For example: 13 -16 10 -3 -42 The Bulls would have an average differential of -7.6, a big fall from their average differential of +1 after 4 games. But here is what happens after 12 games. 13 -16 10 -3 -14 17 -9 -5 7 13 -7 -42 So after 12 games the Bulls average point differential is -3, coming down from +0.5 the game before. Not quite as big of a difference as if it was the 5th game. Our rankings kind of work the same way as that simple to understand example. Only our formula uses the offensive/defensive ratings in their per 100 posessions forms, so such a point differential is mitigated to something like only -2, and then you have other factors with comprise the formula, some static, and the other is effected less dramatically than the O-Rtg/D-Rtg were.
I was just playing . . . gave me a way to remind you about that 40 point blowout the Bulls endured. I enjoy checking in on your rankings . . . I don't agree with them much, but it's fun to track. Hope to see more of them.
.. and that, Sir, is the best proof of the weakness of your methodology. The Bulls have one good player (Rose) who is not playing anywhere as well as Portland's best player (Brandon Roy) does right now - their front-line is pretty much useless - and while the Blazers version is not great - it is above average and the bench Chicago has is no match to Portland's 3rd team... If they were slightly behind the Blazers even without the Rose Garden Massacre (which by the way, was not a darn occurrence at all - it was a joyful one, and I know - I was there in person) - I could see it, but ahead of them... something stinks in the kingdom of Denmark...
I have no idea where the Bulls would be without the Blazers game. Blazers would probably still be ahead, but Bulls would also be a +.500 team, and not have their O-Rtg and D-Rtg in the ditch as well, so they'd be closer. Bulls are in quite the ditch now.

Well, if the Bulls beat the Blazers bad enough, it's possible that they could pass up the Blazers, go ahead to #1 ahead of the Lakers even, and thus sinking the Blazers to an undoubtable last place...although that would have to be one hell of a win.
This is interesting; I like the way yours came out more so than mine! In yours the Pistons are much higher and the Spurs are much higher too. (The Spurs are scaring me to death these days that they will end up behind the Nuggets!) The Pistons are just plain scary, because they are teetering on the brink between success and failure with their Iverson experiment. They are far ahead of the 76'ers and Nuggets in knowing how to play Iverson, but they are still not doing it totally right in my view. Also, you also have the Suns and the Jazz a little ways ahead of where my system has them. We have most of your lower teams ranked almost exactly the same, except mine shows the Bucks higher and the Pacers much higher. My thing only considers games that have been played, and it's possible that the strength of schedule adjustment I have is a little small for extremely early in the season, so who knows this early in the season. I couldn't stand the Magic-Wizards rout, so I got busy looking for the best upcoming games. I'm going to post what I think they are right now.
