When I got out of the Army the first job I applied for was working as a city of Portland Police Officer but I wasn't qualified for two very good reasons: 1) I had no four year degree; 2) I wore glasses. They need to get back to that. Police academy ought to be at least one year. I'm okay with the 2 years of OJT if the other requirements are met.
Indicted means nothing. After that point, police have many oportunities to get off, with free police union lawyers. Then they get their back pay for the year they didn't work. Simply a matter of wrong place, wrong time. Had the officer shot the victim in her own home, when the victim was burglarizing her home, this would be a justifiable homicide. As we say in Real Estate, location, location, location.
What happened to the reports that they were possibly having a relationship? Supposedly they found some of her gear in the apartment. I still think it's possible that this was premeditated murder, in which case training has nothing to do with it.
