Dame Time (for a trade)…

?

If you were GM, what would you do:

  1. Trade Dame, start the rebuild around Simons, Sharpe, and #3 Pick (Scoot or Miller)

  2. Trade Simons, #3 Pick, possibly Sharpe to build around 33 year old Dame

Raptors finished 10th in the EAST last season with these two, and a much better supporting cast… FACT.

For those that want Dame gone, I'm not with you but I've had enough of this kind of shit.

What's on his table? It looks like some kind of electronic but I can't recognize it.

what's he talking about? is it even about basketball? Did he want sushi and they were out? Was the plane circling because of traffic on the runway?

This sort of reminds me of what Danny Ainge did with Vando, Beasley and Conley. Maybe he’s not getting the first that he asked for for Vando, but he’s getting it for all 3 of those guys. Masai can say ‘I got the third pick and Anfernee Simons for them’ and declare victory on a technicality.

"Come on, man" is a fine answer. You're seeking conflict and I'm not in the mood right now.

I don’t want conflict, just an explanation of how trading the 3rd pick for 2 players on a team that finished 10th in the East makes sense.

Maybe the biggest Dame return is at the deadline or maybe not. Ideally to maximize a Dame return the Blazers would be exploring offers but not be pressured to have to get one completed right away. If a team makes a Gobert to the Wolves overpay offer then yes close that deal. If not then hold out for more as the Nets did with Durant or Philly with Simmons.

Also there's risk Dame gets hurt/declines and his trade value plummets, in that regard it's risky to hold off cashing in Dames value now.
Also some teams might have flexibility now but less during the season. Teams with a ton of early season success or early losses/injuries may change their mind and not want to do a deal in the season.

I know trader Bob always said he wanted to do big moves in the off-season as the team then has the summer, training camp, pre season, etc to structure the offense and plays and roles and such. That's why teams such as the Suns acquiring Durant normally don't do as well that first year, compared to the Toronto types getting Kawhi in the off-season. In theory we should probably be able to get more value for Dame in the off-season, but that's not a guarantee.

I honestly think the biggest Dame returns would be a deal for July 10th made on draft day. When you're trying a youth rebuild you want to do the deal on draft day. The thing about waiting longer is Dame is bound to voice his frustrations even more than he already has if we disappoint him draft day and by then there no longer is an either or to the situation. On draft day we can present teams asking about Dame the leverage of what deals we have on the table to improve the team around Dame... if Dame says that he's out even privately and that information gets leaked we no longer have that leverage.

I didn't realize "'til death do us part" was part of the collective bargaining agreement... oh wait, it's not... So this these scenarios are nothing alike...
