NY wouldn't trade Brunson, they love him more than any player since Porzingis and probably more than him as well as more than Melo.

Brunson has arguably accomplished more in the playoffs than Dame; so I'm not sure thats even an upgrade.

Would have to be a way of them having Dame+Brunson.

Yeah I don't think Dame would want to go to Miami - a team that was in the finals, the ECF the year prior, the finals two years before that, and has won 3 championships the last two decades. He wins a title there and he'd still be ranked lower than LeBron, Wade, Shaq, Butler, and Bam. He might even be ranked lower than Chris Bosh/Ray Allen/ Udonis Haslem.

Brooklyn or NY make much more sense. He goes there and wins a title hes imortalized. Not as much as here, that would be the biggest moment, but it just doesn't seem plausible any more. He'd want a similar type of place where it was a real moment and not just ring chasing. Maybe a dark horse team like Orlando if another allstar can come with him. Dame would want to be on more of an underdog team IMO, but one thats still a legit playoff and possible HCA team. He doesn't want to follow the Durant ring hoping circuit.

    Criteria for Dame trade

    1. Dame has got to want to play for that team ( he’s earned that right and no way the organization screws him over) so trying to make a trade to a team that isn’t close to being a contender is not going to happen.
    2. Team must have draft picks available or involve a 3rd team.
3 have to have a contract/contracts that are close to Dames
    4. Team we trade with isn’t going to want to give up any of their key players or it defeats the purpose of trading for Dame.
    5. Team we trade with needs to have 1 or 2 good young players coming back to Blazers

if any of this criteria isn’t met then the trade with that team most likely won’t happen.

Re-sign Grant and give Draymond Green an offer, that will keep Dame in Portland

ESPN insider has a couple Dame trade ideas. I like the Brooklyn offer much more, but that 2029 pick from Phoenix should stay completely unprotected.

    https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/st...s-including-getting-damian-lillard-east-coast

    Dame (Eastern) Time
    Brooklyn Nets get:
    Damian Lillard
    Jusuf Nurkic
    Portland Trail Blazers get:
    Spencer Dinwiddie
    Nicolas Claxton
    Royce O'Neale
    Joe Harris
    2025 first-round pick (via Phoenix)
    2027 first-round pick (via Phoenix)
    2029 first-round pick (via Phoenix; top-3 protected)

... What a team like Miami could offer
    Miami Heat get:
    Damian Lillard
    Portland Trail Blazers get:
    Tyler Herro
    Duncan Robinson
    Nikola Jovic
Draft rights to Jaime Jaquez Jr. (No. 18, 2023)
    2028 first-round pick
    2029 pick swap
    2030 first-round pick

I wonder though if it would be better to let Brooklyn keep Claxton and those other vets - but we take Ben Simmons - while we get another 1st round pick or two instead.

Green would likely require us to give up at least Ant if not more. Can that Blazers team contend with Green? I just really doubt it. I love the idea of Dame staying if I think with my heart but if I think logically with my brain I question if the team is better off just trying to go for a trade and move on.

    In two seasons would you rather have;

35 year old Dame making $60 million 35 year old Draymond @ $40 million 31 year old Jusuf @ $20 million
    or
26 year old Ant @ $25 million 26 year old Claxton @ $20 million Dinwiddle ONeal 3 unprotected picks

Seems like the Draymond contract could become a real boat anchor in a few years and likely not have us winning anything significant in the next immediate two years. Its one thing to have a single player on a boat anchor contract, and a guy who is our greatest player in team history, ok I can live with wasting some millions there. But if we start losing out on possible young assets and paying Draymond 30-40 million, along with also paying Dame $60+ million as his deal becomes overpaid - were really preventing this team from having any path to build around Scoot/Sharpe/etc and the future.

I'd rather have Simmons over Dinwiddie, Harris, or Oneil... Even if there were no additional picks included.

I don't believe Brooklyn will get Dame by only trading 3 future first's. They'd likely have to pony up more and they won't be adding protections. Miami could theoretically offer 3 first's

I'd rather Portland have none of them and instead got extra draft capital and cap-space

    How could Miami trade 3?

I believe you said 2026 is contingent, so 2027 can't be traded. So they can only freely trade 2028 and 2030.

They could word the trade so if 2025 conveys then Blazers get 2027 and 2029 picks - but thats still only two picks.

All I know is that IF you trade Dame, you'd better tell the other team to bring as many 2026 1sts to the table as they're able to. That's the draft you want to cash in on, not the 24 or 25 poo-poo platter.

Miami needs to blow it up.... its was pure luck they got as far as they did.

Portland gets - Bam & Butler
Miami - gets AnF - Nurk, Murray, Johnson & Scoot

    Next years line up
    Dame & Shaedon
    Bam
    Butler & Grant
    fill ins off the bench

they could send OKC a 2nd to just take 2026 unprotected. Right now they might get a much worse pick in 2025. That would open up the 2024 first. Of course, that first won't have much value since it would likely be so late in the draft

but it's immediacy might have more value than an amorphous 2029 first

I would much rather take the Nets deal. I would consider taking Simmons instead of Claxton and collecting as many 1sts as possible.

If Lillard is gone, would like to see them both moved for draft picks.

When Dame previously said no to Boston that was in the context of Brown possibly leaving and having a chance of being acquired by Portland. But now it sounds like Brown is staying in Boston and getting an extension.

I wonder if that dynamic has changed to where Dame would consider Boston to join Brown?

We could take on Brogdon's contract with his injury issues and maybe Time Lord or some other smaller salary. Boston I think has all their picks, so could potentially give us 4 unprotected firsts and a swap or something.

Even if we ultimately prefer a Nets or different teams offer, having a team such as Boston with real assets to make a competitive offer can help the Blazers get a better return if they do need to trade Dame.

I don't think that's it. There were rumors that AD wouldn't go to Boston either. I think there have been hints that the players don't like the city. Haynes shut the idea down completely.
