I mean.... yes? Let's say we trade for Simmons (if that trade is even available) and we send out some unprotected firsts. Simmons comes here and flops as hard as one can flop. Total headcase. Broken confidence. Doesn't help the team and we're out in the first round again. Dame requests a trade. We go into full rebuild mode. How good are those picks going to be in a post-Dame world?
great...you expect me to argue from a position of your worst case scenario? what you said is Olshey's excuse for doing nothing...that it could work out wrong...that the risk will be realized but any reward won't be
The worst case scenario, as you put it, is currently a very likely scenario. Simmons played like shit against Atlanta. His confidence looks shot. He has cut off all ties with his team. There were rumors, albeit so far unconfirmed, that he doesn't want to be traded here. So my scenario would appear to have some actual evidence backing it up, whereas any thoughts of Simmons coming here and turning things around are wishful thinking at this point.
If Simmons is what he was for the playoffs and we get any return on Dame... our picks that we trade for Simmons won't be lottery picks. He's not a broken player, he passed up some shots that he won't be passing up again and averaged damn near a triple double playing phenomenal defense. If we get Simmons and he really is "broken" and won't even try to score anymore, we get a 6'11" super athlete, who is elite at everything besides scoring and isn't a scoring threat at all and then get scoring to go around him in the trade for Dame... those picks again won't be lottery picks... worst case scenario.
I don't think you're taking into account what being broken actually means. He was a complete non factor in the 4th quarter in the Hawks series. His confidence was completely shot. It doesn't matter if he's a super athlete. If he's not mentally in it anymore, he becomes a massive waste of space. Now, I don't know what his mindset is right now. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery. I don't know, but I'm saying that if we trade a bunch of picks for him, and our team is still a one and done team next year, we will not be in a good position going forward unless we can flip him and Dame and CJ and whoever else for some decent picks/young players.
lol....really...."wishful thinking" ....? again, you've imagined the worst case scenario of Portland trading CJ and picks for one of the many players they might trade for, and that trade somehow "gutting the team". You sure appear to be trying to build a case that Portland should just fucking give up on building a contender around Dame and skip ahead to allowing Olshey to build the team around CJ
wut? <--- that's a question too you are the one that brought up "gutting the team"....you didn't really define what that meant, so I filled in the blanks not only that, your scenario included Portland failing & trading Dame in a year, which is the same thing that could happen anyway, even if the Blazers don't gut the team in a trade. So, that's not part of the gutting
No. They were two completely separate points. One - (a question) So are we not doing anything because Dame leaving is a forgone conclusion and we're not going to gut the franchise to try to make him happy? Two - (a response to you) a scenario where trading CJ and picks could potentially gut the future of the team. Or at the very least massively damage a rebuild in the case that Dame wants out. But I also question why you think CJ+picks is going to be enough? I think it's very possible that one or both of Ant/Little will have to go to, and that's really what I meant when I was talking about gutting the team to make Dame happy. I got caught up in your scenario and arguing for/against that.
ok...fine my scenario wasn't Simmons or bust. It was based upon trying to upgrade from CJ and by that I am not stupid enough to suggest CJ traded for a better player, but rather CJ for a better fit and moving Powell to SG I simple do not believe that: CJ + 2022 first + 2024 first for an improved roster will doom the Blazers to being gutted. there is also not going to be one magic trade. It will have to be a process
I'm just going to need a name of the last 25 year old all nba player that without injury came up irreparably "broken".
I am not sold that the situation is as dire as we all think it is now I am not saying Dame is thrilled and happy but I think there were a lot of little things that piled onto him and he might have used a friend and/or reporter ( Haynes ) as a sounding board to vent and this situation was born. Let's examine the things that I believe led to this .... 1) 1st round exit when the Blazers if they would have been coached correctly and if a player or 2 would have shown up then the Blazers MIGHT have gotten to the next round. 2) Dame made the comment about wanting Kidd and maybe Billups and then some fans piled on Dame so damn hard that it shook him cause I believe there were a section of fans who thought if Dame wanted these types of coaches maybe HE should be leave or something. This type of hate and I will call it hate really rattled him and I think that is what that tweet he made about masks or something was about cause when things get bad that is when a person finds out who he can count on and who are fake and he realized the fans COULD turn on him and he never thought this could happen not over an innocent comment that some blew out of proportion. 3) This next one is a educated guess --- I think he likes NeO but now that Stotts is gone I believe he feels that NeO needs to step up and no longer has bad coaching to use as an excuse. I think that Dame feels that NeO has one more year and if he cannot come through maybe he should be the next to go -- I think this is why some of the rumors of him MAYBE wanting out comes from to put pressure on NeO and see how he responds maybe even a test from Dame to see just how serious NeO is about winning as Dame . I will go on record now saying he will go to Jody at the end of the season if the season is a disappointment and go either you trade me or Fire NeO and see how much he truly is valued by this organization.
