Pretty sure Crand felt a disturbance in the force when he mentioned using the word "gay." So there should be at least four of you!

You are not a special snowflake. Your feelings don't mean shit in the grand scheme of life on this planet.

Hmmm. Let me uncross my arms and get my eyes back facing front.

You make a good point, but I think that the opposite is also true. First, let me say that my comment was in no way directed at Spud. I've known her on message boards for years, have met her in person, and we even went to the same high school. Years apart, but we're both South Salem Saxons. She's one of my favorite posters and I totally get why the continued use of female body parts as a cheap put down is offensive. That crap is ingrained in male speech patterns and won't change unless people point it out. All of that said, I do think that constantly digging at people for relatively innocuous slip-ups can do a disservice to getting people to actually change the way they think and act. People get resentful to be constantly reminded that they have unintentionally stepped on someone's toes when that wasn't even germane to the subject being discussed. I'm not sure where the line is between pushing to advance civil discourse and just being really annoying, but it's there somewhere.

I don't think the standard should be if it doesn't offend me then it isn't offensive to anyone else.

Why not, it doesn't bother me but I can understand why it could upset someone else?

I tend to have a sense of humor about everything. Words don't bother me at all. They are just words. We give them power.

Actually, I take it back, it annoys the shit out of me when Dviss says "white privilege."

But I wouldn't censor him or delete his post. He's entitled to his opinion.

Everybody is different. I grew up around comedy, watching comedy. Chappelle, carlin, Pryor, hicks, burr, Louis ck, etc. I feel that people take shit way too serious when in reality nothing is that serious at all. If you get what I'm saying. These words are nothing in the grand scheme. The real issue is the constant censorship and direction of society today where everybody needs to be coddled and protected.

There's a line, and frankly, it needs to be crossed until people stop using the words so much. It's annoying to be reminded; it's probably because it's a little embarrassing. Taking criticism is embarrassing, and making the same mistake over and over is embarrassing, and self-worth is a fragile construct.

However, in a written format, we get to choose our words, review them, and edit them BEFORE saying anything. There's simply no excuse for using offensive language in an offensive way unless that was the intent. Getting called out for it might be embarrassing ("annoying"), but it damn well should be because there were many opportunities in the workflow to catch and eliminate that language.

Exactly. Just opinions. Everybody has them, only the immature and insecure get upset at others opinions. You agree to disagree and move on. On another note. White priveledge isn't real. WOAH DID I JUST GIVE MY OPINION ON A VERY SENSITIVE SUBJECT?!?!? Why yes, yes I did

Or you could just ignore the post and move on and realize not everyone needs to, has, displays the same moral outlook as you do.

I've long since decided to embrace being privileged. It's great to be a straight, white, tall, American male of sound mind and body. That doesn't mean I'm going to look down on anyone who isn't, but I'm certainly not going to feel one iota of guilt that I am.

I'm pretty sure all the folks touting the freedom of ignorant speech would not use any derogatory terms to greet Damian Lillard or Jeremy Lin or Ed Davis. I'm part of the civil right generation and there's a difference between freedom of speech and ignorance...my son was called Chink by local white kids in 3rd grade and he was offended...so was I....Martin Luther King was an educator. You want to hang onto KKK terms it's ignorant, politics aside. Coming from a largely white fan base here, I'd expect more from humanity. It's wrong...whether you're liberal or conservative. My 2 cents. Fuck racist terminology

Personally, I make it a point to be respectful of others where I can. I was taught to be respectful with my parents, family, and friends. Of course, I speak differently with my close friends than I would with my family.

However, this is a forum consisting of many personalities with differing backgrounds and cultures. As a general rule, I try to write content on this forum as if I am speaking to a crowd of people, some I know quite well and many I don't. So, I try to be respectful as I can while being playful at times. But I understand there is a line between communicating within a large community vs. speaking with close friends.

Like are you really hanging onto this? I really wonder. I just find it funny, not even trying to argue. Dude, this won't mess your day up I promise. It's a forum. It's not serious

If I had to wager, I think hes making a point, moreso than really being offended, but I could be wrong...

My post was edited for something that i was completely in the wrong for, had no ill intent, but understand why it was offensive.

Moving on, i remembered the post that irked me, decided to bring it up this time because those individuals dont have a voice for themselves and i want things consistent, and yes it annoys me it has not been edited.
