Pretty sure that you know that I'm pretty careful not to use those kind of terms in my posts. I'd love it if people would always be thoughtful and screen their words before hitting "post". That said, I don't go out of my way to "correct" others when I know that the intent to harm wasn't there. But, as long as it doesn't get in the way of the flow of a thread, if others want to do it, go for it.

I would note, that it's pretty much derailed this thread from its original subject.

I rarely ever call anyone out on this, you guys know that! I'm not outraged or in a rage at all... more frustrated and disappointed. Again, it's not the word it's how you use it. I'm going to try and break it down even more...

    Good:

The baby came out the vagina, yay!

The lack of water has retarded the growth of the plant.

    Bad:

With all that whining, you act like you have a vagina

Your point is so stupid, you must be retarded.

    Hope that helps!

You forgot to add, "Guys can be so stupid sometimes." But, I guess we all know that. ;)

I call my girlfriend a pussy sometimes, is that bad? I mean, is that offensive to cats or the actual slang to vagina or what? Should I be concerned? Am I a good person guys? Please tell me...I really don't want to offend cats or vaginas

You "Guys" really are great... and I didn't mean to derail the whole topic... it was just a shaking my head moment when I saw that the board was in an uproar about racism and how wrong it is but used derogatory terms about women to describe it.

    Ironic, don't you think?

Point well taken. Sorry I jumped in with the PC comment. This wasn't the right time to make that point.

If you're not offended by it, you have the option not so say anything. Depending on the situation, you might retroactively become associated with people who think the offensive thing is okay or good, but whatever.

People who say something (and on some things I'm one of "those people") have two things going on: 1 - they see the offensive thing, which is in and of itself offensive to them. But they also think "if I say nothing, then it's like I'm saying it's okay to say this offensive thing." And that thought, of consenting through silence, is offensive to them too. So now you have two layers going on. So you say something.

"Hey sorry, but my personal value system is wired to think this thing sucks AND saying nothing about it sucks." Then you get made fun of by people who think you have no right to get offended, AND also are annoying for saying something. Both levels of personal values get insulted in one fell swoop. But you say it again when it comes up again because you have your values, and you can't compromise about this shit.

Conversations evolve; threads aren't strict debate subjects. And really, talking about what's okay to talk about is generally what Dame's thread was about.

Clearly this is a hot button issue for you. You're one of the good ones, BC, and I would never question your motives on this. We all have to make judgments about when something needs to be said. I let stuff go all the time about God and/or Christian beliefs; most said with no ill intent, but some with direct intent to denigrate people so "stupid" as to believe in God. I let it go, not because it isn't important to me, but because it's not the reason people are posting here. People come here for a Blazer fix and to have fun. When things get away from those purposes, and especially when people intend to hurt others, then something needs to be said. I think Sly and the other mods generally do a good job of policing things around here. Must be like trying to herd cats.

It wasn't always, but the more I talk with friends who are in variously targeted groups, the more I realize this stuff is important to understand.

And like you I normally save this for the OT cesspool, but this thread was an interesting crossover.

I want to add that I think this message board and the people who post on it are wonderful and amazingly NOT sexist considering that 99% of the posters are probably male. I wouldn't have continued to post on different boards if I was constantly being offended or felt like I had to be on a soap box all the time.

    1. Sorry, I had some things to take care of and didn't edit the post before I left.

    2. You have mod powers, you could have edited it.

I dont edit the blazers forum because im not a blazers mod. And generally dont want to step on your toes.

And i wasnt necessarily talking about your post (but thanks) i was talking about post 6 of the side rant topic in the OT forum i pointed at the very start of this thread after my "vagina" comment was edited

Seriously? It's essentially the same as stupid, idiot, etc. at this point. Should we ban those words too? You can think I'm an asshole for saying it and get offended all you want, but trying to say people shouldn't be allowed to use those words is pretty ridiculous.

Notice that i did not call you out for it yesterday? I went on with my life, even though it offended me.

Then, when i was edited and called out for something i have no issues with them editing, i felt like it should be brought up too. If a social justice warrior wants to call something out, be consistent and speak up especially for those that cant usually speak up for themselves.

Just want them to be consistent.
