Understand what I'm talking about when I say patience. No one's talking about the past 10 years. I'm talking about have patience until the trade deadline. If a significant move isn't done by then that's when the sky is falling. Y'all are falling for a bunch of media hype rn...

Not really. While the media stuff surely has not helped. The interviews with Dame have left a lot of questions on the table. Certainly doesn't sound like someone committed longterm.

The fact that our offseason has been underwhelming (another thing Dame pretty much came out and said regardinf our signings) hasn't helped.

Yes, there is more more time to make a trade. Many of us just have minimal confidence in Olshey to pull it off.

I understand your argument dviss, I just don't agree with it because so far, this off-season looks a lot like past Olshey off-seasons, and Olshey already telegraphed his desire to run it back in the Stotts presser

will he be looking for trades between now and the deadline? sure, there's always a bargain bin to shuffle thru. But there is no reason to expect him to do anything like trading CJ for a better fit. Jones, sure, CJ, no. And exchanging Jones for another player of his caliber is unlikely to do anything close to moving the needle

I would say it's worse than past offseasons.

How often do we sign a free agent like NP? Sure he was already on the team for 30 games, but most fans here said he was gone.
I take that as a bigger victory than most off-seasons. Especially since we did not overpay.

What if Dame demands that Olshey is traded?

I think finally removing Stotts makes it better than our other dumpster diving offseasons of the past.

What if Dame likes Olshey and demands that he stays? I would guess both scenarios have about the same chance of happening.

We'd have to choose between them, based on value to the franchise.

Hmm, how do we decide that fairly? 10,000 dice with a picture of Dame on all sides and one die with 5 Dames and 1 Olshey? I guess if we throw out that last one, it's about right.

10,000 dice? Just go full Dungeons & Dragons and make it a thousand-sided die.

I suppose in the context of the noise Dame has made you could make that argument

the last time Portland had a free agent of Powell's caliber or better, he walked. So re-signing Powell is a win, both as a retained player and as a tradeable contract. Of course, there was no gray area in Powell's free agency. Lose him it's a huge failure. Keep him and the roster stays the same at the top end of the rotation...which means Portland will be going with a 6'3 forward....unless the most talked about trade actually happens

I don't think the other signings are any real upgrade. I do not believe Zeller is an upgrade over Kanter. Maybe in the case of Melo, Portland gets addition by subtraction

I'd wonder if there are too many expectations of magic in simply moving from Stotts to Billups. I think it was well past time to bring in new vision and new schemes. But going by last season, while a different coach could have led Portland past Denver, that coach would have not led Portland past Phoenix. And Portland essentially has the same roster

I'd be afraid Olshey would weight the die. I figured with the 10,000 dice plus one, you'd roll all of them and if an Olshey comes up, you remove 1/6 of the Dame dice and roll again. Repeat as necessary until no Olsheys are showing. On the off-chance that the Olshey is the last die face showing, he wins. Care to calculate the odds, Mr. Math?

No, you guys are right. I wasn't looking at the offseason holistically. Getting rid of Stotts makes the offseason better than past offseasons by itself.

But I was looking at it strictly from a who's out and who's in standpoint. I'm not a fan of Melo or Kanter, but we have done basically nothing to replace their scoring and rebounding.

As per this thread, I'm looking at it from the standpoint of the last time we heard from Dame before he left for Japan. He knew Stotts was out, he knew Chauncey was in. The guy was asked flatly if running it back with Chauncey as coach would be good enough for him and he said no. We are actually worse than running it back. Does anyone in here imagine that Dame is excited or rejuvenated by what's happened this off season? If he felt desperate enough to be talking about asking out has anything been done to calm that desperation?

I don't think that Olshey actually thinks he's done. I don't know if his iron(s) in the fire are as minuscule as signing Millsap as our last FA addition or if he's really close on a CJ+ for an all star forward deal that would actually assuage our superstar. I guess we'll know soon enough but I don't see Olshey going into camp without either patting himself on the back in a presser or making excuses in one. I guess we'll see.

Better yet. What if CJ demands Olshey is traded? That would be hilarious!
