Not condoning anything Ferry has said or done, but I seriously doubt the racial trash talking wasn't going both ways. I'm sure Sheed and other black players have never said anything racial to or about a white player. Or ref. Or coach. Or fan. #doublestandard
Apparently tape of the conference call has come out and... it doesn't look good for Danny. Twitter reacts.
http://www.thescore.com/news/576144 Commissioner Silver says Hawks GM Ferry's comments 'do not merit his losing his job' NBA commissioner Adam Silver arrived in Barcelona for the FIBA World Cup on Wednesday, and it didn't take long for him to be asked about the current situation within the Atlanta Hawks organization. As a quick refresher, the situation in Atlanta began when general manager Danny Ferry made racially insensitive comments on a conference call about free agent Luol Deng - comments he has said he was reading from an external report. The comments caused minority owner Michael Gearon Jr. to ask the team's controlling owner, Bruce Levenson, to remove Ferry. Related: Luol Deng issues statement on Hawks controversy: 'Proud to say I actually have a lot of African in me' As a result of Ferry's comments, the Hawks launched an internal investigation that turned up a racially insensitive email from Levenson. Levenson self-reported it to the NBA and agreed to sell his share of the franchise. Ferry, meanwhile, was disciplined internally in an undisclosed manner. For Silver's part, he's leaving Ferry's discipline up to the Hawks and saying he doesn't believe Ferry deserves to lose his job, based on current evidence. Here's Silver, to USA Today Sports: The discipline of a team employee is typically determined by the team, and in this case the Hawks hired a prestigious Atlanta law firm to investigate the circumstances of Danny Ferry's clearly inappropriate and unexpected remarks. In my view, those comments, taken alone, do not merit his losing his job. It's a question of context ... These words, in this context, understanding the full story here, the existence of the scouting report, the fact that he was looking at the scouting report as a reference when he was making these remarks, what I'm saying is - and frankly my opinion - is that this is a team decision in terms of what the appropriate discipline is for their employee. But if I'm being asked my view, I'm saying that, based on what I know about the circumstances, I don't think it's a terminable offense. After Wednesday's leaked transcripts from the conference call, the "question of context" is a little clearer, though hardly transparent (see below).
I wanna tell u something as an outsider, as an Israeli. Stop obsessing about it. It's a non-issue. People will say things. Sometimes these things can be perceieved as racist or whatever. I know you don't really care. We love Damian like we would love Larry Bird if he was a Blazer. You're telling me Larry or Magic is about colour? It isn't. I can tell you it isn't. I love you if you're black or white or racist. You're my other country. It's not that important. Love is the answer, I love you all, whatever colour you are.
Um, how shall I put this? You're probably not #1 on the nationalities who get to preach about harmony and racial tolerance.
We need a song For Ferry's Funeral, since he's almost out of here. How about this little ditty that my grandchildren liked when it was released when they were teens. http://www.loc.gov/jukebox/recordings/detail/id/4940
I don't understand 2 things. 1) If Ferry read the "African" evaluation from something a scout wrote, why isn't the media clamoring for the scout's name? If Ferry's not at fault because he just read something, why isn't the media holding the writer responsible? 2) The Hawks owner group (Levenson, Belkin, Gearon) were at war with each other for a few years till Belkin was forced out. Then it was Levenson vs. Gearon. Levenson hired Ferry as GM. Gearon has tried to get Ferry fired, and has no respect for his IQ. In the tape, he snickers repeatedly at Ferry's African comment. Levenson quit, so after all these years of ownership fighting a second Civil War in Atlanta, minority owner Gearon can now purchase shares to be the 51% owner. He has the authority to fire his nemesis Ferry. So he announces that Ferry won't be fired.
What are you talking about? Them fuckin' Arabs?! J/K of course. Yes, you have a point. Though I personally like most Arabs and I like Negros even better!
Ferry is out! http://www.nba.com/2014/news/09/12/ferry-takes-indefinite-leave.ap/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt3a
The new majority owner would have gotten rid of him anyway, eventually. As I said, he thinks Ferry's a moron (so have I, ever since Ferry acted like an ass on TV the day he was drafted, then sucked in Europe when he refused to be a Clipper).
Then blacks out...wakes up in China and wonders why he was out of the league well before his talent dropped to that level.
I don't think that his talent dropped to that level he just got lazy. The same thing happened with Rider.
