cleaves was 2 or 3 inches shorter and 3 years older when he got into the nba so the part that reminds you of mateen cleaves is that he got into the paint in college?
How he got into the paint. He doesn't blow by anyone, and that will hurt Morris in the NBA, just like it hurt Cleaves. It also should be pointed out that the league is moving towards ultra quick PG's that can get into the lane. Morris is going to struggle at the next level, IMO
The league always seems to be "moving towards" something. Small Cs and PFs. Fast PGs. Big PGs. Very tall teams. Very small teams. etc. I don't think because other teams are getting fast PGs is a reason we absolutely have to have a fast PG. TYhose fast PGs aren't staying in front of and stopping the other fast PGs, so getting them for defensive purposes doesn't seem worth it.
Andre Miller has made a career of getting into the paint and he was never super-quick, even in his athletic prime. Quickness is great and all, but making a fetish of it is not a good idea. Some players succeed just fine without elite-for-the-NBA quickness.
off the top of my head batum rudy roy lma oden all got minutes as rookies pretty sure ridnour played as a rookie for him at pg jarrett jack sergio all played as rookies but im the ignorant one?
It's tough to make any concrete statements about Morris except that it looks like he has really good court vision and pretty poor 'quick-twitch' athleticism, but he's got some size. Which means he might make it, but the Blazers select him, he's going to have study Miller like a Hawk and try to pick up some of his old-man game in hurry, or he's going to be just another so-so backup NBA point guard. Frankly, I think he looks a little like Sergio without the flair for the dramatic.
it also looks like his outside shot is crap, but being 20, he could hopefully improve that...i wonder if thats the basis for alot of these miller comparisons lol
I don't know why you brought up everybody else when I was only talking about point guards? In any case name me one point guard that has ever flourished under Nate, rookie or otherwise? Even Jack and Sergio both went elsewhere and saw improvement in their statistical output. True, neither are/were stars but I think it's been somewhat apparent that Nate's talents don't lie with grooming young point guards, either by killing their confidence or trying to shoe-horn them into a style of play that doesn't fit their game. But like you said, you don't "give a fuck" so why worry about what I have to say?
i think we are on more or less the same page as far as his talent evaluation, so maybe we are just getting lost in the details.
So now it's changed from can't get 12 mpg to guys that have flourished under him? Well that changes the argument drastically to coincide with what you're saying, when you're initial claim, that a rookie PG getting 12 mpg under Nate is unlikely. Earl Watson Luke Ridnour Jarret Jack Sergio Bayless All played 12 mpg or more as rookies for Nate. So a rookie able to play 12 mpg as a backup is not unbelievable.
DX just released there strengths and weakness video breakdown of Darius Morris. http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Darius-Morris-Video-Breakdown-3740/ He's big, but really lacks quickness and explosiveness. Worry about his ability to operate off the ball as he had an Evan Turner type role in college where he handled the ball a ton for Michigan. I also question his ability to defend pg's, which is important because he isn't close to being a good enough shooter to slide to the 2 and be a combo guard.
