    I/my church was working with a community of them in West Seattle 2008-10 or so. Interestingly, there was also a community just down the road toward Kent that was Eritean emigres.

    Yeah, like I say, you missed the point. It had nothing to do with trained men being there at the right time. It had to do with trained men not being able to successfully defend themselves against unexpected attacks.

    And? So....what is your argument here? That legal citizens should not have guns to protect themselves with because cops can't defend themselves against ambush-style attacks?

    They're like a fat girl who's mom picked on her mercilessly for eating too much. One day a skinny girl gives her a funny look for ordering 4 big macs and she snaps.

    From then on anyone that so much as looks her way is fatphobic. It is human nature I suppose.

    My argument is that your argument is pretty ridiculous - you argue that if the college students were armed, they would have been able to protect themselves. The experience of the dead cops suggests that to be incorrect.

    The primary difference between the scenarios you're connecting is that these individual cops who are targeted are generally targeted because they are alone; that is, there is nobody else with them to respond to the attacker. If in a group of people, some are armed, then there will be others aside from the first one attacked who would be able to respond to the threat. Defensive weapons facilitate not only defense of self, but also defense of others.

    It's more than that, Platypus. Something barfo isn't considering is that Cops are marked; that is, they are essentially walking targets. Their uniforms and patrol cars are all targets; a "shoot me first" beacon, basically.

    Whereas legal citizens exercising concealed carry are very low-key and usually blend in with their surroundings and the general populace.

    THAT is the difference. If you're a criminal, you can't just walk up and shoot someone without seeing their gun. If you don't know who's armed, who are you going to target?

    That is why cops have more of a risk of getting killed than the average armed citizen. Never-mind the fact that they are required to run towards a fight; whereas civilians are not.
