Did you watch the L*ker game, mags? Admittedly I didn't watch a lot of it, but in a short stretch I saw him hit a 3 in the flow of the offense, force a miss by staying straight up on defense and moving his body well, block a posterizing dunk attempt so that the ball stuck between the rim and the backboard, battle for a rebound and tipping it to a teammate on the third leaping attempt, set a competent screen in transition, and make a quick, sharp, and accurate swing pass that would count as a hockey assist. In that same stretch of time, I only noticed two mistakes, a really REALLY poorly-timed leap at a jump ball (more the ref's fault than his, but just barely), and a late rotation on D because he got caught with his head turned the wrong way.

Can you honestly say, without hyperbole, that you can't see any improvement?

Watch the highlights of the Laker game right here. You will see Leonard hit not one, not two but three treys and move very well. But as has been said. This is preseason.

Hitting threes does not impress me for our center. I want our center to protect the paint and get rebounds. I guess I'm old school like that.

Leonard will never be a center I support until he rebounds, boxes out and makes a much better effort defensively

I have to agree with Wookee on the effort. The kid gives effort, but he doesn't know where he needs to be on the court, especially on defense.

Spencer Hawes spent four years being terrible in Sacramento, with tons of PT, before he became a legit NBA player. To suggest that Leonard is definitively a lost cause at this stage of his career is silly.

Then I'm silly. Have him develop somewhere else. At this stage, I would rather have Freeland than Leonard. At least freeland boxes out, rebounds and makes a valiant effort defensively.

There's a difference between "he'll never be a player" and "we don't have the time to wait for him" . The former is premature; the latter is reasonable.

Bias, you're comparing him to an NBA player. Compare him to DLeaguers or hey, anyone on these boards. GMs have spoken and we're all lost (NBA player) causes. Hell, there are billions of lost causes on this planet. Leonard doesn't deserve to be categorized as an obvious NBA player. That being said, I'm sticking to my previous theory that he should be allowed to play out his contract and give him a new 2-year league MINIMUM contract with the accompanying roster spot. If he doesn't improve by then, dump him.

Meyers Leonard will lead his team to a Championship title one day.

His prime years are nearly a decade away, only an absolute moron would allow another team a shot at stealing him.

That bears repeating, only an absolute moron would allow another team a shot at stealing him.

Well this is what I've said

As a Blazer fan, I've seen this "wait he's got promise, he's got a perfect NBA body" way too many times. This will be his third season with very little "defensive improvement".

Then this surfer kid decides, hey I want to shoot threes because it's cool! Fuck that shit! I'm tired of soft. Leave that to our wings. I want a bruiser 7 footer. We already got our perimeter forward in Aldridge anyway.

Meyers will never be that guy. He's a stretch 4. I would not extend him though. The only reason to extend a guy is if you are fairly certain you want to retain him and he'd demand more money. Don't see either T-Rob or Meyers warranting that. This will give us another year to see how they develop.

No. Another reason to extend him would be to retain him as a trade asset for this coming off-season.

I predict that CJ (obviously) and Leo's options are picked up and T-Rob is shopped.

If he ain't worth the price his trade value wouldn't be worth much.

Amazingly most NBA GMs actually value guys of Meyer's size athleticism and age... even if they are raw and a reach. Look at Hasheem Thabeet. He was more worthless than Meyers and still getting contracts.
