Thank goodness Assad had a plucky little ally called Russia to stick up for him! And he was such a nice guy before all this went down, too.

 

Okay, not going to argue with you any more Sly. Wasting far too much time on this site. But just be aware what "letting" Russia do what they want has meant.
No simple answers anywhere, and bad people on both sides. But Assad is pretty much pure evil, and Putin close behind.

She's somewhat right. The driving force behind it all is ideology, not poverty, not lack of jobs, not lack of education. However, I think that decent amount of "extremists" don't really share the ideology, and do join forces with radical extremists (who actual believe in the fucked up ideal) because they have nothing going for them. I think the logic is that, if some of the people over there got a better start and better situation, they wouldn't resort to become an "extremist".

Just my opinion. I don't follow politics that closely so it's just a guess.

 

It's not that the Syrians are terrorists, I guess some could be, it's the fact that ISIS is infiltrating the Syrian refugee population and then getting to come to USA, or possibly come to the USA.

I could spend the next 20 minutes copying and pasting you the text and videos of various Obama officials including the ex-CIA Director and DNI Director warning about the possibility for ISIS/ISIL to infiltrate the refugee program....

But, you should probably do it yourself.

"Intelligence officials have determined that Islamic extremists have explored using the refugee program to enter the United States, they told the head of the Homeland Security Committee.

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) revealed portions of a classified letter from the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) on Monday, which offered new claims not previously disclosed by the Obama administration.

The disclosure could give ammunition to critics of the White House’s refugee plans who have warned that the program is vulnerable to infiltration by adherents of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

The NCTC has identified “individuals with ties to terrorist groups in Syria attempting to gain entry to the U.S. through the U.S. refugee program,” the intelligence agency told McCaul in a letter."

“As they descend on Europe, one of the obvious issues that we worry about, and in turn as we bring refugees into this country, is exactly what’s their background?” Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper said. “We don’t obviously put it past the likes of ISIL to infiltrate operatives among these refugees.”

“That is a huge concern of ours,” Mr. Clapper said during a rare and unusually informal public appearance at an annual U.S. intelligence community conference that kicked off Wednesday morning in Washington."
