Exactly, which is why I say that the EU is a better comparison to the United States. We have some very rich areas with low unemployment, but we have many areas that have a tighter economy. If the EU developed the same benefits to Greece, Portagal, Italy and Spain, we have a better comparison. Problem is the EU countries don't want to bail those countries out.
http://nypost.com/2015/05/03/bernie-sanders-us-should-be-more-like-socialist-scandinavia/ My bad. I used data for Switzerland instead of Sweden
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Is it really possible for someone who calls themselves a socialist to be elected president of the United States? BERNIE SANDERS: Well, so long as we know what democratic socialism is, and if we know that in countries in Scandinavia, like Denmark and Norway and Sweden, they are very democratic countries. Obviously, their voter turnout is higher than it is in the United States. In those countries, health care is the right of all people. In those countries, college education, graduate school is free. In those countries retirement benefits, childcare are stronger than the United States of America. And in those countries, by and large, government works for ordinary people in the middle class rather than as, is the case in our country, for the billionaire class. STEPHANOPOULOS: I can hear the Republican attack ad right now: He wants America to look more like Scandinavia. SANDERS: That’s right. That’s right. What’s wrong with that? What’s wrong when you have more income and wealth equality. What’s wrong when they have a stronger middle class in many ways than we do, a higher minimum wage than we do, and they’re stronger on the environment than we do? The fact of the matter is that we do a lot in our country, which is good, but we can learn from other countries. We have, George, the highest rate of childhood poverty of any major country on earth at the same time as we’re seeing a proliferation of millionaires and billionaires. Frankly, I don’t think that’s sustainable. I don’t think that’s what America is about. http://dailycaller.com/2015/05/03/b...uld-be-more-like-socialist-scandinavia-video/ - See more at: http://www.teaparty.org/bernie-sanders-us-like-socialist-scandinavia-97258/#sthash.VEQAQbCK.dpuf
Those links didn't exactly show he said he wanted to be like them economically. In fact, one of them was a link to the other one AND the one it linked to didn't even have a quote from him.
Yeah, and he provided 3 links. 1 was, at best, a stretch of a quote saying he wants us to copy their economic policies, and another was an article about him (but without a quote FROM him) and the 3rd was a link to the 2nd one.
He was pretty enthusiastic about agreeing that the U.S. Should look more like Scandinavia. Their 50% tax to GDP is how they look like what they look like. Or are you suggesting Sanders has some other way to pay for his socialism without taking vast sums of money from the people to spend on his agenda?
yeah, I saw that Just like your inability to understand what the term "satire" means, you seem to be unable to figure out what it means to say "more like". I'm just wondering if you actually listened to what he said. Government actually working for the middle class instead of the insanely rich, education being free, healthcare and not being known for starting wars up with people. Having income equality, strong middle class, and treating the environment better? NO where did he say "yep, I want to tax people at a figure pulled directing from Mags ass".
